Richard Davis Obituary

Richard H. Davis March 5, 1951 – August 11, 2025 This is a story about a storyteller. Someone who began writing stories as a kid and never, ever stopped. Even when his fingers on the keyboard failed him, he told stories. Throughout his life he published features and columns on business, travel, healthcare and medicine, sports, politics, food, unusual/special people, and restaurant reviews. Richard H. "Dick" Davis left this earth August 11, 2025, and leaves behind his story which is full of musings about eating healthy, exercising (he ran marathons), his beloved wife Mary, his family, his old friends, his care team, and many more topics. He wrote about Italian gardens and cooking, barrel aged maple syrup, candy, personal trainers and lots of random stuff. And he was a VERY FUNNY MAN. Easy with a joke and a smile, he cherished his friendships and often would leave voicemails which included an opening joke, a quick take on a current event, and a heartfelt "hope to see you soon, Ciao." He thought he was Italian but, according to Mary, was not! Dick had a career as a journalist at The Record-Argus, media relations director for Mercer County government, corporate writer for a Sharon Regional Health System, and as he put it "a survivor in the wild, wacky, wonderful world of freelancing." He graduated from West Middlesex High School in 1969 then earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State (1973) in law enforcement and corrections. He could easily speak to a crowd of 50 or 500, and he led the National Association of County Information Officers where he made many lifelong friends. Dick is survived by the love of his life Mary Teresa Michael of Sharpsville, Pa., to whom he was married for more than 31 years. He told her how much he loved her EVERY day and often referred to himself as Mr. Mary Michael. He also leaves behind a brother Robert Davis (Joan); brother-in-law Mike Avers; sister-in-law Patty Maykowski (Bill); nephews David Michael (Brenda), Albert Michael (Kim), Robert Avers (Sarah), Paul Avers, and Michael Mayowski (Heather). Nieces include Brandi McMullen (Brett), Carrie Cannon (Al), Lori Goff (Jerry), Bobbilyn Latimer (Douglas), Brenda Webb (Eric), and Becky Boyd (Robert Scott). He had 13 great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents: Helen Kushner and Dale "Dutch" Davis, Lena and Albert Michael and his son also named Albert Michael, and Cynthia Avers. Dick loved his care team despite being, well, a care team! Shoutout to Doctors Piston, Crago, Herbert and Generolovich, and Leroy Clark and Larry Howsare as well. Dick Davis's story doesn't end here. It'll be retold by Mary, his friends and family – especially the hordes of nieces and nephews. Ciao Dick Davis. There will be a celebration of Dick's life at 1 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the Corinthian, 47 Vine Ave., Sharon, PA. Please RSVP with Mary or by calling The Touch of Class Styling Salon at 724-347-4600.
