Van Buren Township- Richard Joseph Hornyak, Jr. 59, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, November 7, 2024, in Huntington, West Virginia while doing what he loved, hunting.
Mr. Hornyak was born August 21, 1965 in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of Richard Joseph Hornyak, Sr. and Margaret Ann Seidel.
Raised in Poland, Rich was a graduate of Poland Seminary High School, Class of 1983. He went on to receive his Associates Degree in Design and Drafting from ITT Technical Institute in 1987.
On April 1, 1989 he married his high school sweetheart, Karen Ann Kelty, and they were blessed with their daughter, Natalie Elizabeth Hornyak, on August 22, 2001.
They made their home in Van Buren Township, Michigan, where Rich was employed as a Safety Engineer for DFM Solutions in Detroit, Michigan. For 15 years, Rich was a diligent worker who loved his career with DFM Solutions.
In his free time, he loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, as well as cars, especially Mustangs. He was a member of the Fraternity Order of Eagles Van Buren #3996. Most importantly, he was a loving, trustworthy, and fun, man who loved his family and friends more than anything.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his lovely and beautiful wife, Karen; daughter, Natalie; father, Richard and stepmother, Margo; mother, Peggy Dingess; sister, Michelle Hornyak; mother-in-law, Shirley Kelty; sisters-in-law, Sherry Perrott and Christine (Mike) Bagnoli; two brothers-in-law, John Kelty and Bill (Shari) Kelty; two nephews, Zachary and Dominic Bagnoli; step-siblings, Lori Ann Premozich, Daniel Williams, and Margaret Williams. As well as so many loving and close friends who made such an impact on Rich's life. They were like family to Rich and he would want to acknowledge their friendship and love for him and his family.
Rich was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Edward John Kelty; and his brother-in-law, Richard Perrott.
Family and friends will be received Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main Street, Poland, OH 44514. A prayer service will follow Friday, November 15, 2024, at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Kraszewski officiating.
Family request memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association.

Rich and i shared the same passion in hunting. I was always excited n look forward to seeing him or hunting with him. But our busy schedules didn't allow us to get together to hunt like we wanted too. He was a great man sure gonna miss him.

My deepest condolences to the family. Worked with Rich for many of his 15 years at DFM, he was a wonderful man and will be sorely missed by all. Rest in peace Big Dog, it was a privilege to know you.
