Youngstown - Sandra L. Deak, 84, went home to meet her Lord and Savior, on Tuesday afternoon, November 5, 2024, with her longtime friend at her side.
Sandra, affectionately known as "Sandy," was born November 4, 1940 in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of John and Anna (Donuchie) Deak.
A lifelong area resident, Sandy was a graduate of Boardman High School, Class of 1958, and attended business classes at Youngstown College. In 1959, she began her career with the Vindicator in the Archives Department. She dedicated 43 years of service to the newspaper, retiring in 2003.
A woman of strong faith, Sandy was an active member of the former Pilgrim Church and Faith Community Church, and most recently, First Covenant Church. In her leisure time, Sandy found joy in reading, especially her Bible and about history, and coloring beautiful pictures. Through the years, Sandy enjoyed the companionship of her dogs, and in the last several years, the visits from therapy dogs, Ginger and Frankie, at Park Vista Retirement Center.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her extended family in Bellefontaine, Ohio.
Friends will be received on Monday, November 11, 2024, from 11:00-11:45 a.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman, where a funeral service will follow at noon. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Boardman.
In honor of Sandy's love of animals, memorial tributes can take the form of contributions in her name to Angels for Animals, 4750 W. South Range Rd., Canfield, Ohio 44406.
