Shirley Siekkinen Obituary
Shirley Ann "Meme" Siekkinen, 89, Williamsfield, passed away Friday, September 20, 2024 at her home surrounded by loved ones.
She was born July 15, 1935 in Wayne, the daughter of Lewis and Lenna Bailes Lipps and the sister of Martha Bryan and Lewis Lipps Jr.
She married Harold William Siekkinen November 16, 1951. He preceded her in death on August 7, 2020 after 67 years of marriage.
She worked as a local switchboard operator and was co-owner of Siekkinen Meat Packing in Williamsfield with her husband. She also worked at Kennametal in Orwell for 25 years.
She was the definition of a matriarch, a loving wife and a devoted mother and grandmother. Her daughters and grandchildren were the light of her life. She never missed one of their events. Known as "Meme" to all, she was a pillar in her community. Her door was always open to anyone who needed an ear or just wanted to hear a story or ten. She filled her time with Mother's Club, the Wayne Historical Society and her devotion to her faith. In her younger years she enjoyed watching Guardians games with her husband. Everyone knew her for her generous nature and her tenacious spirit.
Shirley is survived by daughters, Debra Gruskiewicz, Pamela Siekkinen, Sheryl Gilmore, Barbara (Eddie) Papandrea, Jennifer (Dermott) Keady and Alison (Michael) Sweeney; 11 grandchildren, Susan, Tiffany, Justin, Jamie, Matthew, Benjamin, Jacob, Joshua, Olivia, Taylor and Jack; seven great-grandchildren, Dylan, Megan, Teagan, Colton, Austin, Darrin and Andrew; and 2 great- great-grandchildren, Rowan and Archie and one on the way.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister, three brothers, a great-grandson, Daniel and a son-in-law, Jon Gilmore.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Crossroads Hospice, 9775 Rockside Rd., Valley View, OH 44125 in Shirley's name.
Friends and relatives may call at Galloway-Onstott Funeral Home, 3451 St. Rt. 7, Hartford, OH on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor William Siekkinen and Hospice Chaplain Aaron Daleon officiating.
Burial will follow at Hayes Cemetery, Wayne, OH.
