William Simon Obituary
William "Bill" P. Simon, 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday July 26, 2025, at Sunrise of Dublin.
He was born on January 1, 1938, in Youngstown, the son of the late John E. and Mary L. Loy Simon.
Bill graduated from Saint Patrick Grade School where he was proud to be an altar boy. He graduated from Ursuline High School in 1955. After High School he attended Youngstown State University where he graduated as an Electrical Engineer. After graduation, he worked at Bell Laboratories for over 30 years.
Bill enjoyed travelling throughout the US and Europe, he especially loved visiting New York City several times a year to see various Broadway shows and the Opera.
He was an avid reader and was proud of the fact that his home did not have internet access or cable television. He did the New York Times crossword puzzle in pen every week and his family always said that he should try to be on Jeopardy.
Bill leaves to cherish his memory his brothers John Simon of Largo Florida, and Richard Simon of Mansfield, he also leaves his brother-in-law William Smith of Newton, N.J.
He has over 30 nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who will miss him very much.
Bill had a very special relationship with his grandniece Emily Smith who had lunch with him most days and would load him in her jeep to take on various adventures and to family events. Emily's grandmother, Barbara Smith, would have been very proud of her for how she took care of her brother. The family would like to thank Emily for all that she did for Uncle Bill.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Barbara Smith (Simon).
Family and friends may call from 10 to 10:50 a.m. on Saturday August 2, 2025, at Saint Patrick's Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave. Youngstown, Ohio 44509.
A mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. John T. Rovnak.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The family request any material tributes be given in Uncle Bill's name to St. Patrick Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. Boardman.
