Christopher Overand Obituary

Christopher Thomas Overand

Christopher Thomas Overand, 51, of Dead Indian Memorial Rd., Ashland, died at his home on December 29th, 2007. Chris was a native to Ashland and graduated from AHS in 1975. After high school, he moved to Eugene to study at the University of Oregon, and followed up with a degree in nursing from OIT in Klamath Falls. He then worked as a traveling nurse in Alaska and Portland, where he met the love of his life, Erin Burton. They then moved back to Ashland and was an R.N. in the I.C.U. at the Rogue Valley Medical Center.

His passions were his family and friends, fishing, hunting, boating, camping and everything outdoors. He was a river guide, hunting, hiking and crabbing partner for all of his widespread friends and was truly an outdoorsman extraordinaire. There was nothing that his family loved more than to see him liven up the Ducks games on Saturdays or dance up a storm at any given moment. We will all sorely miss his wild energy, positive attitude and crazy adventures.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Wesley Overand Jr., in 1973; and his mother, Frances Jeanette Overand, in March of 2007. He is survived by his brother, Dr. Patrick Timothy Overand of Yakima, Wash; his sister, Kathleen Doris Martin of Ashland; his nieces and nephew, Chantelle Nicole Martin of Ashland, Cezanne Patricia Graue of Philidelphia, Pa. and Bradley John Overand of Yakima, Wash.

A memorial service will be held for all his friends and family Wednesday January 2nd at 11am, at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, 1811 Ashland St, Ashland, Ore. There will be no graveside service.

Erin, it's not quite a month since losing Chris. I think of you so often and the emptiness you must feel. Chris holds a speical place in our hearts. He helped us say goodbye to my son in ICU last July. Our family feels a strange yet dear connection to Chris. He shed his tears with us and we shed tears for you. Please call me or let me help in anyway I can. Judi Johnston 944-5068 (Johnstons from howard prairie)

When I think of Chris, I remember hunting Chanterelle mushrooms in late winter with him. Didn't even know what one looked like until then! I often return to that memory and the exhilaration at yelling "Hey, Chris! Is this one?!" . Thanks Chris for sharing and being part of the tapestry of my life.

Chris always brought a smile to my face. I loved his sense of humor. He was trustworthy, funny, sweet and such a great guy. My heart goes out to his Sis, Kathleen. They were quite the pair and they had so much fun together. Chris was a light and will be missed by so many.

This one was a great shock. I hadn't seen Chris for awhile but had been thinking about him lately. When his cousin told me he still lived on the hill I was going to stop by this summer. I was too busy. Now I will be forever sorry that I didn't take the time to stop and say hi to the person who was my closest friend growing up. Life was always an adventure for Chris and he was the catalyst that would put that adventure right in your lap. Few people take the time to appreciate the world around you like Chris. I got my first deer with Chris. I caught my first and only salmon with Chris ,my first steelhead. We sunk my truck in the dunes at the coast. We saw sunrises and sunsets. Everyone of my favorite stories starts out " Chris and I".
Possessions weren't what was important to Chris, people were. When you were with him you were as much a part of his wonderful family as if you were born into it. Today the world doesn't shine quite as bright as it did. My heart felt condolences go out to his family. Chris will be sorely missed!

One of those moments you don't believe you heard someone correctly. Chris was always so full of energy, how could that run out so quickly. As he always greeted you, you just knew you were a "pal" or "bud". Every time I saw him he would update me on where the fish were. If I could have December back, would go bear hunting at Emigrant lake like we talked about and where I helped him get a deer out. When he got his new jet, I was fishing beside him where he took a picture of me, my brother and my Dad holding up his last salmon. A picture on my wall to help remember Chris by. The service for Chris was remarkable for the joy it showed in Chris's life, his Erin and family, and his outdoor activities. Will miss him at work and in the outdoors. He was such a joyful fun person.

Shock, disbelief and incredible sadness hit me this morning as I read Chris' obituary in the Mail Tribune. I know Chris from RVMC where we worked in different departments...Chris in ICU and myself all over the hospital.

I had the privilege and honor of getting to know Chris, Erin and some of his family members during the time that his mom was hospitalized at RVMC in the ICU and later on the third floor, where she was actively dying.

Watching Chris interact with his mom and loved ones was like watching tenderness and love unfolding.

Erin, my heart goes out to you. I am always available should you want to talk...

Fondly,

I first met Chris in 7th grade. He was a fantastic athlete and totally dedicated to giving it all. We eventually partied quite hard together and had alot of laughs. My God! What a spirited human being. One of the best people I've ever known. I received the call from Rick Cottle and have been tearing up ever since. Life is so precious and we all forget that we are not going to live forever. I really think that Chris would tell us to live every day as though it were our last. Love and peace to Erin and everyone. I will miss Chris but will always remember his incredible zest for life.

A series of family phone calls brought the shocking news of Chris's death. He felt like one of our own. Chris was no ordinary man. His presence lit up his environment wherever he was and his absence will leave a hole in our hearts. Jim has known Chris for such a long time as a mountain neighbor and a regular at Howard Prairie Lake. He was such a delight to see, full of enthusiasm. We knew when he stepped on the property; ready to boat, fish, bike or whatever. On a more personal note, Chris was the ICU RN who helped our family say goodbye to our son Rick Yates this past July. We will all remember Chris's professionalism and sensitive caring spirit, but most of all, the tears he shed with us. This was a "real" man, strong, but oh so tender. Erin, we ache for your loss and want you to know we are thinking of you and your family right now and will in the days to come.

Christopher, we here mourn the loss of your beautiful smile and caring embrace. I know that is selfish, you are in a much better place, special soul. Such a shock, you are so vital, I know your energy lives on. You must have forgot that we were gonna fish Alaska together! You brightened my life in some of my darkest hours, so positive and larger than life. I will miss you my friend. God speed...and comfort to your family in their darkest hours. Always...Tracy PS The Ducks in the Sun Bowl :)

Chris...I don't quite know what to say at the moment, other than I am in complete shock of this news!!!...I saw you on the 29th @ The Oak Tree, talked a few mins, then we went on our way, like aways when we'd bump into each other, and for that last conversation we had, I will be forever greatful!!!

We lived in the same neighborhood in the 70's and had great times playing football in the ACH's big yard area with all the other neighborhood kids, like Ed, Greg, the Shultz brothers, etc...One Sat morning after a AHS football game, I had found a wallet poking around under the AHS section of the bleachers, I thought WOW I HIT THE GOLD MINE (I was only 13 at the time) I opened it up to see that this wallet belonged to Chris, who I knew from the neighborhood as "the older kid" and also knew him from school, so I knew that the following Monday @ school, I'd return this wallet ASAP, which I did...From that day on in 1973 until the 29th of this month I had a dear friend for life...He never, ever forgot about that wallet thing 34 years ago....

Chris, you will be sorely missed by one hell of alot of people, as I am sure you made everyone you ever met feel as special as you made me feel back in 1973.

CHRIS, I THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPECT, AND LIFE LONG FRIENDSHIP!!!

Your pal..
Geoff
