David W. Snook

September 6, 1943 -

November 10, 2022

David Wallace Snook, a long-time resident of Southern Oregon, passed away on November 10, 2022, at the age of 79 in Bend, Oregon.

David is survived by his wife, Darlene Snook; his children, Jennifer Snook-Tracy, Jessica Heller, Samantha McFadden, Kristen Korfhage, Brian Korfhage; his siblings Vaughn R. Snook, Lee Snook, and Mary Ann McWhirter. He is predeceased by his parents, Vaughn L. Snook (2001) and Margie Snook (2019).

David was born on September 6, 1943, to Vaughn L. and Margie Snook in Vincennes, Indiana. David's family lived in various towns in Michigan, including Olivet, Michigan while he was small. David spent much of his youth right outside of Lansing, Michigan. The Snook family called Mason, Michigan their hometown for many years and David considered Mason his hometown his entire life.

David graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1965, before graduating from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1970. He joined the Air Force after his graduation and David became a flight surgeon, as well as beginning his lifelong love of flying. David performed a medical internship at Oregon Health Science University Hospital before his residency at Kaiser Permanente Southern California in Sepulveda, CA. David completed his medical education with a Rheumatology Fellowship at the University of Tennessee in Memphis Tennessee. David eventually settled in Eastern Oregon after a 6-month long trip across the country in a 24-foot Winnebago to find a new home. He started his own practice in Burns, Oregon, and enjoyed being a small-town doctor for almost 9 years. David eventually moved his family to the Rogue Valley, where his 3 daughters graduated high school.

David worked full-time in Grants Pass at Three Rivers Medical Center for over 15 years in the emergency room. He also enjoyed working part-time at Ashland Community Hospital in the emergency room in his spare time. Finally, for 5 years before retirement David worked at the White City VA Medical Center attending to Veterans.

David devoted his life to his family and to medicine. He loved to travel and spend time in Kaui, HI. He loved to teach other people about investing strategies. He loved to go out for Dutch Brothers coffee with his wife, Darlene. David especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren; Ashlynn, Joey, Phia, Jack, Janey, Bode, and Moses.

Sorry to hear about David's passing. I have many fond memories from high school where David was part of the Fearsome Five. The five of us spent many good times together. The five included Dennis Dudley, Joe Miller, Eric Leu, David Snook, and myself Dennis Atkinson. Eric has passed away, and now David. Dudley, Miller, and I get together several times a year and we always talk about our times together at Mason High School. We have tried to get in touch with David several times, with no success. We will continue to keep his memory alive. He was a great high school friend and my prayers are with his family.

An amazing caring Physician. His patients were at the center of his care . A true advocate for whats best for the patient. He was a pleasure to work with during the years he was at AACH caring for our patients. I worked in Radiology and whenever I was called in after hours to perform CT's or Ultrasounds throughout the nights and weekends, Dr Snook was always so appreciative and kind. He will be missed by all who knew him.
