Evelyn Sherman Obituary

Evelyn "Evie" J. Sherman

Evie was born on January 18, 1935 in Vallejo, CA to Delmar A. Hubbard (23) and Goldie I. Hubbard (18). Evie has 2 sisters, Carol Hubbard and Cindy Hess both of Medford, OR and 1 brother, R. Joe Hubbard of Jacksonville, OR. Evie grew up in Vallejo, CA and graduated high school there in 1952 alongside her dad who also received his high school diploma the same year – it was a memory they talked about often. After graduation, Evie lived and worked in California until relocating to Medford, OR in 1968 to join her parents, siblings and large extended family. Family was an important part of Evie's life and she loved coming to Medford for summers and holidays to be with her grandma, aunts, uncles and numerous cousins. Once she even hid in the record store, hoping her dad wouldn't make her go back home! Among the many outings with the family were visits to their favorite picnic spot at McKee Bridge in Applegate, OR.

After moving to Medford, Evie worked for the Medford Police in the records department, a job she enjoyed very much. During this time, Evie met Jack Sherman the man she called "the love of her life". On March 19, 1975, Jack and Evie were married in Medford at the home of Evie's aunt Ermie and her husband Raymond Dallaire. Evie and Jack enjoyed 40 years of marriage, during which they shared a love for each other, golf, vacations in Hawaii and trips with family and friends.

Much time and plenty of fun was spent participating in her hobbies and sharing her interests with so many people who touched her life. Evie loved her pets! She loved riding her horses, caring for her dogs and tending to Sherwood, her yellow-naped amazon parrot She also enjoyed boating and water skiing, bowling and golf. Evie and Jack were long-time members of the Rogue Valley Country Club. Watching football and her beloved U of O Ducks was a favorite past time. She was always on the go and attended as many personal, school or athletic events as she could for her family and friends. She poured her life and love into everyone and everything she did - we miss her so much!

Evie has 3 children by marriage: Joni Sherman, Doug (Carman) Sherman and Jennifer (Michael) Strong. Doug preceded her in death.

She has 3 grandchildren by marriage: Willie Sherman, Brandon Sherman and Rachel Arappagis.

Her 7 nieces/nephews are: Gina (Dan) Reece, Janell (Jeff) Carpenter, Julie (Jason) Davies, Kaley Olson, Brad (Alia) Hubbard, Scott (Kayla) Hubbard and Sarah Hubbard. She has 19 great-nieces/nephews: Cory, Kyle and Cody Reece; Trae (Corinne), Jett, Ty, Paije and Baby Gabe Carpenter; Natalie Spivey, Emilee and Kacey Davis; Megan, Maddy and Mallory Olson, Zeke Olson, Hazel and Cora Olson-Matlock; Henley and Jackson Hubbard. She was also looking forward to meeting her 2 newest great-nieces when they arrive, twin girls, Lily and Ruby Hubbard.

Evie was preceded in death by her parents Delmar & Goldie Hubbard, her husband Jack Sherman and her first husband Harley Prentice.

Evie love, love, loved get-togethers and when it was time to go home, she was known to say, "can't you stay just a little bit longer?". We all wish she could have stayed "just a little bit longer" too.

~ Never good bye, just "see you later" ~

It was with delight that I saw Evie at a Cascade B'ball game this winter. She was one of my favorite patients as I saw her regularly as her Dental Hygienist for many years--we could hardly get any work done because we were enjoying "catching up" so much! She was a doll and spunky to boot! Her name and number is written on a b'ball team roster that's sitting near my nightstand phone with our hopes of "getting together soon for coffee". I guess we'll get to enjoy Eternity over that cup of coffee "on the other side". She was a gem!
