Phillip James "Bud" Nevin

Longtime rancher, Phillip James "Bud" Nevin, 82, of Eagle Point, passed away Friday, November 2, 2007, at Providence Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, at First United Methodist Church, 607 West Main, Medford.

Bud was born December 6, 1924 in San Francisco, Calif. to James and Genevieve Nevin. In 1942 he graduated from Livermore High School, Livermore, Calif. He attended San Luis Obispo College. He married Joan Trout on October 5, 1947, in Livermore, Calif. In 1957, they moved to Eagle Point to continue ranching. He worked for Steve Wilson Lumber and Eagle Point Irrigation as Manager/Secretary for 10 years, and retired in 1993 as Oregon State Brand Inspector. Bud served as president of the Jackson County Stockmen's Association, was a member of the Oregon Cattlemen's Association, Medford Elks and Eagles, past board member Jackson County Soil and Conservation Service, and Eagle Point Irrigation Board. He received the Jackson County Stockman Top Hand Award in 1984. In 1985-86 received the Cowbell Guardian Angel Award. He was chosen Cattlemen of the Year in 2003.

Bud enjoyed golfing, dancing, roping, reading, watching sports, attending his children and grandchildren's many activities...and cocktails at 5:00.

Bud is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Joan. He was preceded in death by his son, Denny Nevin, of Eagle Point; and his sister, MaryJane Moore, of Livermore, Calif. He is survived by a sister, Shirley (Ray) Devaney, of Livermore, Calif.; daughters, Jennifer (Ron) Anderson, of Eagle Point, and Donna (Jim) White, of Creswell; son, Jim (Rene) Nevin, of Eagle Point; daughter-in-law, Anne Manlove, of Eagle Point; grandchildren, Tracy and Amy Anderson, Creighton and Brandt Nevin, Fiona and Wynn Nevin, of Eagle Point. Molly, (Brett "Mac") McGiffin, of Red Bluff, Calif., and Shawn Leary, of Eugene; step-grandson Jimmy White, of Creswell; great-granddaughters, Kayla and Rylee McGiffin; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to Phillip "Bud" Nevin scholarship fund, c/o Jackson County Extension, 569 Hanley Road, Central Point, OR 97502.
