Althea lived on Waverly Avenue in Pittsfield for many years. She was a wonderful homemaker, enjoying gardening and antiquing. She absolutely loved spending time with her family and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. She retired from Edwards Co. in Pittsfield and was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she held many offices throughout her membership, and was also involved with the Rainbow Girls.
She is survived by her son, Dale Knowles, and wife Beverly of Washburn; her daughter, Olive Norton, of Plant City, Fla.; grandchildren Sarah Knowles of Washburn, Paul Knowles and Kari Frost, both of Pittsfield, Bobbi Roberts of Hartland, Ann Bond and husband Ward of Corinna, Heather Norton of Plant City, Jamie Norton of Dexter, Michael Knowles and wife Cathy of Gray, Cathy Blanchette and husband Tim of Hodgdon, and Phillip Knowles and wife Susan of Benedicta; great-grandchildren Addy Bond, Tyler Roberts, Connor Roberts, Isaiah Norton, Lakota Norton, Brianne Blanchette, Ryan Blanchette, Andrea Blanchette, Jeremy Knowles, Joseph Knowles and Chloe Knowles; brother Floyd Harding and wife Joanne of Stetson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Knowles; son Paul C. Knowles; stepson Kenneth Knowles and wife Barbara; grandson David Knowles; two brothers, Lionel Harding and Harold Harding; and a sister, Kay Bubar.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, with an Eastern Star ceremony beginning at 11 a.m., and a funeral service following, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. Interment will follow immediately at Village Cemetery, Peltoma Avenue, Pittsfield.
Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Order of the Eastern Star, Bethlehem Chapter, 360 Somerset Ave., Pittsfield, ME 04967, in Althea's memory.

Ann & Addison......................no matter the age it is always hard to lose a family member and if you are lucky enough to have them as a friend it is more difficult.
