Cecil Farrar Obituary

STANDISH -- Cecil C. Farrar, 65, born in Washington, D.C., to Deane S. and Ruth (Libbey) Farrar on Aug. 21, 1942, died at Maine Medical Center on Aug. 12, 2008, after a five-year fight against lung cancer.

Cecil moved permanently to Maine at the age of 12 after spending every summer at Pemaquid Harbor with his grandparents. He attended schools in Augusta and graduated from Cony High School in 1960 while working across the street for his parents at the Augusta Print Shop. He graduated from Wentworth Institute in Boston in 1962.

He was attached to the Maine National Guard Troop 101 AWD in Bangor while employed by the Department of Transportation for 38 years, retiring in 2000.

While single for years, he was deeply involved in the Masonic Bodies: Augusta Lodge 141; past high priest of Jerusalem Chapter 4, Hallowell; past grand chapter officer; past illustrious master of Alpha Council; Scottish Rite Bodies in Augusta, Kora Shrine Temple, Lewiston and Order of the DeMolay.

He married Anne M. Hammond and her three children on Oct. 22, 1977, in New Harbor, and Jason joined the family in 1979. In 1998, Cecil and Anne relocated their business, SunRise Corner, to Standish.

"He will be remembered as a humble sweetheart, detailed and always there. Dedicated to the tasks at hand and a gentleman to the core."

He is survived by his wife, Anne; his brother, Edward, of Florida; his children, Becky (Robert) Eugley, of Bristol, Angela Gore, of Detroit, Dana (Kendall) Hammond, of Bristol, and Jason, of Standish; as well as five grandchildren.

A memorial service and committal will be at 1 p.m. on his birthday, Aug. 21, at Harrington Meeting House in Pemaquid Harbor.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a fund for a memorial bench to be located at the Harrington Meeting House Cemetery, "Cecil's favorite place," overlooking the ocean: Memorial Bench -- Anne M. Farrar, Casco Credit Union, 397 Ossipee Trail, Gorham, ME 04038; or to the Maine Cancer Center, 100 Campus Drive, Scarborough, ME 04074.

Arrangements are entrusted to the direction and care of Strong Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 612 Main St., Damariscotta.

Cecil was very much a "FAMILY MAN" I will never forget his smiling face as he would pick Jason up from my mother's Day Care, just the conversations he would have with my Father as he was doing electrical, and heating work at Cecil's mothers house on the south Moutain roadand also while getting his house ready for the Shop in the house. I'm Sorry for your loss, Cecil will be missed!

Dear Anne and family, I am saddened by your great loss. I will hold all of you in my heart and prayers. The loss you bear is heavy and no one can walk your road for you but know everyone will try to walk a piece of it with you.
