David Provost Obituary

GORHAM -- David A. Provost, 41, of Clearview Drive died at his home Sunday, April 17, 2011, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Keene, N.H., the son of Armand P. and Janet R. Gaumont Provost. David graduated from Gardiner Area High School in 1987 and went on to attend St. Michael's College in Winooski, Vt., where he graduated in 1991 with a degree in journalism.

He then went on to attend New England School of Law in Boston, Mass., and received his law degree in 1995. David was admitted to the Maine Bar Association in August of 1995.

David held various positions in the banking industry and found his niche in real estate law. He spent many years employed by McLaughlin Title Company in Portland.

David loved spending time with his family, especially his two beautiful children. He was an avid golfer and a big New England sports fan. He will be remembered for his quick wit, dry sense of humor and love of life.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Kazakavich Provost; his son, Will Provost; his daughter, Anna Provost, all of Gorham; his mother, Janet Provost of Augusta; his father, Armand and step-mother Maureen Provost of Pittston; two sisters, Cyndi Galusha and husband Jerry and their children, Karen, Sara and Jake of Kingfield, and Pam Mancine and her husband, Jason and their daughter, Olivia of Jay; his mother- and father-in-law, Ed and Judy Kazakavich of Bedford, N.H.; his sister-in-law, Danya Kazakavich of Boston; his brother-in-law, Ed Kazakavich and wife Felicia Hobbs of San Francisco, Calif.; and many wonderful friends.

Visiting hours will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2011, at the First Baptist Church, 360 Canco Road, Portland.

In lieu of flowers, donations in David's name may be made to Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 US Route 1, Suite 1, Scarborough, ME 04074, or the Center for Grieving Children, PO Box 1438, Portland, ME 04104 or to a charity of one's choice.

Dave was my friend. He touched my life as a work out buddy. I loved the light hearted banter and trueness with the way he approached life. I knew we would always be friends although life drifted us apart. We often communicated about golfing together with friends but that didn’t happen. I cannot say how my heart goes out to Liz and the family. I am grief stricken with their loss and my thoughts go out to Liz and his son and daughter. Dave was a good man, a good man, and will be a good man in my thoughts forever.

"Pilate" and "Provost"-that's the way it always was until Tim Porter started school and then we were no longer in alphabetical order. Every time Dave signed my yearbook, he would say "We've been in the same homeroom now for 7 years". Yes we were and if I was lucky and the teacher assigned us seats next to one another, then I was in for a ride. Dave kept me laughing every day with his incredible sense of humor.

I'm so thankful for all the memories I have of Dave. Like, the time Dave broke the toilet in my childhood home at one of our “get-togethers” and I had to explain that one to my mom, Dave always “canon-bombing” into our pool and trying to make sure we had no water left to swim in, Dave’s “amazing” driving ability and the way he clutched the steering wheel, the endless baseball stats, Dave in his BK uniform and his infectious laugh. Just a few of the endless memories.

As we say Good-bye, I pray that your family and friends surround your wife, children, parents and sisters with the love that they will need to get through this. Good-Bye old friend-your time here on earth was way too short. “When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.” ~Author Unknown

My deepest sympathy to Liz, Anna, Will, Dave's parents, sisters and the rest of his family.
