He was born on Aug. 7, 1919, in New York City, the son of John and Elizabeth Toth. He was raised on the family farm in Mansfield, Conn., where he spent his early years. Edward left home to join the military and saw combat in the South Pacific during World War II where he earned the Purple Heart and other decorations.
After the war, Edward ran a taxi business in Madison with his wife Josephine. They later moved to Connecticut where they started a family, bought a home and worked together at a mental health care facility for the state. Edward lost his wife in 1966.
In 1978, Edward retired and returned to Maine with his son and spent the next 30-plus years enjoying hunting, fishing and the outdoors.
He was especially fond of his grandson Jeremy and border collie, Sue Sue.
Edward was predeceased by his parents; his wife Josephine; and brothers John and Joe Toth.
He is survived by his son, Vance and his wife, Heather, of Smithfield and grandson Jeremy.

I cannot remember a time when Eddie wasn't part of our lives. Time and distance does not diminish the bonds that we make. Eddie will forever be in our hearts and we will hold the memories dear.
