Erik Naslund Obituary

2001-2014

"Came into this world extraordinary, went out extraordinary"

Belgrade - Erik Raymond Naslund, a life-long resident of Belgrade, Maine, was affectionately known as "Goob" by his family. He was brought into this world on May 29th, 2001. Erik was born in an unanticipated yet marvelous manner in the passenger's seat of his parents' Bronco at 12:41 at night, en route to the hospital, bringing joy to us all ever since his arrival. He has always been a kind, gentle, sympathetic, innocent, and playful boy who wore his heart on his sleeve, always trying to put a smile on the faces of those around him. He was his Daddy's helper, his Mommy's snuggle-buddy, and his sister's sidekick.

In his thirteen years on this Earth, he grew to love many people and became interested in many activities both old and new. His big, warm, and loving heart cared deeply for his friends and family. He cared especially for his parents, who tucked him into bed, kissing him goodnight each and every night, as well as his older sister Katie, who Erik lovingly dubbed "Kay-Kay" at a young age. He had a special place in his heart for all animals, especially his pets. Howie, his rescue cat, and Bella, his beloved pooch, were by far his favorites and the loves of his life. He was beloved by many, even by his favorite barber, Donald Bean.

Some of his favorite activities were flexing his skills in baseball or in Airsoft. He enjoyed playing video games, as well as designing and competing in Minecraft. With his family and friends, he enjoyed traveling and taking special trips. In the summers, Erik loved to swim in the pool and loved going to the beach. He loved a wide range of topics and was bit of a history buff, loving military history, old movies, biplanes, and old cars, especially '57 Chevys. But of all these passions, his greatest however was playing, creating and building with legos. He spent many hours reading, researching, planning, building and displaying his creations, always trying to achieve bigger and better. He even had his own special Lego room meant just for his building and for his completed projects. This year, he even went to a convention for Lego enthusiasts, both young and old. Erik had aspirations of creating his own custom Lego business this year wanting to be the youngest Internet Lego entrepreneur, and had dreams of one day becoming an airline pilot.

Erik grew ill in an unexpected and life-changing manner, and despite his condition growing worse each day, his big heart went on long enough to say his last goodbyes.

Erik joined the angels on September 11th, 2014 at 2:57 in the afternoon.

Erik is survived by his parents, Raymond and Vaughan, his older sister, Katelyn, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Our deepest gratitude and thanks to Erik's entire team in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Maine Medical Center, Dr. Matthew Sanborn and the Ronald McDonald House. A Celebration of Life is to be determined at a later date; Donations can be made to the Ronald McDonald House in Portland, Maine, in honor of Erik.

"Erik's life is full of blank pages... Sleep with the angels, our precious son. We love and miss you, always Goob Man."

I don't know you but I feel compelled to comment and express my deepest sympathies. I have an 11 year old son and while I was reading your son's obituary I couldn't help but notice how much alike they sound. My son would have been great friends with your son had they ever had the chance to meet. I cannot begin to place myself in your shoes but know with 100% certainty that losing your child has to be the most heart wrenching, worst possible thing you will ever experience. You have a lot of special memories of a special boy....this I know. God Bless You and Your Family.

Perhaps it's no mistake Erik left on 9/11; must be some lonely folks were missing the babies they had to leave behind after the terrorist attacks and God knew your son was just the boy for the job, and that you were strong enough to go on... I don't know you but do know the pain of child death. Erik is no further away than your heart and your memories. God Bless
all of you, He'll take care of your boy too.

Vaughan, Ray & Katie –

There are no words to express how deeply sad I am to hear of the loss of your precious son Erik. I want you to know as one of his baseball coaches for many years it was always a pleasure to have Erik on our team. He always had a smile on his face, a willingness to be great and his candid joyful advice always brought a smile to my face.

As the days and weeks pass my family shall continue to keep you in our prayers.

Timothy 4:6-8
6 For I am already on the point of being sacrificed; the time of my departure has come. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.

I am sorry to read that your precious child has died. There is not much I can say that will take away the way that you are feeling right now. But I do know that God can help. At Psalm 56:8 David pleaded to God: "Do put my tears in your skin bottle. Are they not in your book? Like David I know that God is aware of your pain and what you are going through emotionally. He will continue to give you what you need to live each day without Erik.

Ray, Vaughan, and Katie,
As a classmate of Erik's and a co-worker of Ray's, my granddaughter Caytlin and I came to know Erik both personally and through Ray's anecdotes. He was a truly amazing young man, beloved by everyone who knew him. Our hearts are broken for your loss, but lightened by the knowledge that he resides with God and His angels, and his grandmothers. Our prayers continue for God's grace for your family.

I used to live in Augusta. I read the KJ online so I can keep up with news from "home". As I sat here reading the beautifully written obituary for your son, I had tears running down my cheeks. I do not know you, but I feel your pain. Erik is now in a better place. He is free of pain. May you always remember him and keep his memory safe in your hearts and minds. May God keep you all safe and I will remember you in my prayers.

Dear Naslund household
I knew Erik if only for a few short months, he was a man among boys, and a good man among kings. I've seen first hand how much you, his family loved him. It was unconditional, wholehearted, authentic love, that could only be given by people as close as you were to Erik. Erik is, and will always be the man, every boy wants to become. I know you're going through terrible times right now, and I just want you to know that there are so many people that are here for you, and will always be with you, you have so many friends, even if you don't know it. I know you don't want to ask for help, but I personally will always be giving it. I love you all, and I'm gonna do my best to help you through this.
Love,
Someone close

Erik was an amazing child who touched my life. I will always remember his kindness, smile and laugh. He insisted on giving me a fist bump every time he saw me. I am so glad I knew Erik and it was a pleasure to have him as a student at Belgrade Central School. I am so sorry for your loss.

Hello

You do not know me, but I grew up in Maine and still read the online KJ daily to stay in touch. I was so deeply moved by Eriks obituary. What a wonderful boy with a wonderful family and a great zest for all that life has to offer. Just wanted to extend my condolences and let you know that Erik's story has inspired me to be the best dad I can be and to make sure my family knows how much I love them. May Eriks soul, through the mercy of God, always rest in peace.

Our deepest sympathy for your loss. The angels have received a wonderful young man. Although Travis no longer attended MMS, he enjoyed playing baseball with Erik and was deeply saddened by his passing, as are we all. Erik was a kind and caring young man. We shall see him again one day.

Although I did not know Eric I am deeply touched by his story. My son has a-not for-profit (501c3) foundation that gives Lego sets to children in the cancer hospitals. My son John and I are from Maine and I will be pleased to donate a set of Legos in Erik's memory. I am sure this special child has a special task to perform in Heaven. My heart and thoughts are with you all.
