Eula Barrows Obituary
1925 - 2016
AUGUSTA - Eula F. (Stratton) Barrows, 91, of the Middle Road passed away April 30, 2016, surrounded by loved ones at Maine General Medical Center.
Eula was born in Belgrade on Jan. 1, 1925, a daughter of the late Charles & Eula (Wallace) Stratton Sr. of Belgrade. Eula was one of 11 children. Eula enjoyed cooking and baking, gardening, planning and attending her family and friend's parties. She frequently could be heard saying, "Let's get a gang together!" Eula was employed by White Cloud Laundry and the State Hospital (later AMHI), before retiring from St. Marks Home for Women, all located in Augusta.
On Feb. 15, 1942, Eula married William E. Barrows Sr. They were married for 52 years and had five sons, William E. Jr., Ralph M., Richard A., Paul E and Kenneth A.; along with 15 grandchildren; 23 great- grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Eula was predeceased by her husband Bill and her brothers, Wally, Henry, Charles Jr., Paul, and Al, a sister Irene; her son Paul; grandsons, Emery and Jason; and great-grandson, Dennis.
She is survived by her sons, William E. and wife Toni, Ralph, Richard and his wife Theresa, and Kenneth and his wife Susan, all of Augusta; sisters, Eleanor Haney of Bangor, Faye Ouellette of Sidney, and Georgie Gagne of Augusta, and a brother, Dennis Stratton Sr., also of Sidney; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She will be very sadly missed by all her loved ones and close friends, most of whom called her Gram and loved to stop by her house to share tea, hot biscuits, molasses cookies and applesauce cake.
Relatives and friends may visit at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church Street, Augusta, Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday May 6, 2016, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. I only met sweet Eula a few times, and I know how important she was to her family. She was the cutest lady I've ever met. I know she will be missed very much by all.
