Francis worked his whole life as a dedicated dairy farmer and served on many committees. He and his loving wife, Charlene (Roberts) Wren, took over the family farm in 1964 and raised their five sons together. They would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on Feb. 4.
Francis was a proud husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a happy, strong person, who loved life and fought many difficult health challenges the last 12 years of his life. His strong faith and love for his family carried him through until his death.
Francis was an avid bird, rabbit and deer hunter. He finally won a moose hunting permit in 2009, and his sons made it possible for him to participate. Bagging a trophy bull moose was a highlight of his later life.
He will be greatly missed by the love of his life, Charlene; sons and wives, Francis and Marcia Wren of Hermon, Alfred and Laurie Wren, George and Lisa Wren, Daniel and Lynn Wren, all of Thorndike, and Dana and Angel Wren of Troy; grandchildren, Jamie Lee Wren, Andrew Wren, Caitlin Wren, Alex Wren, Caleb Wren and Meagan Valles, Abigail Wren, Darren Wren, triplets Darian, Brianna and Nathan Wren, Whitney Wren, and twins Monica and Mariah Wren; great-grandchildren Zachary Nickerson, Jacie Nickerson, Ethan Wren and Cooper Wren. He is also survived by brothers Richard Wren of Mystic, Conn., and Robert Wren and his wife, Roberta, of Stockton Springs; sisters-in-law Ethel Wren of Thorndike, Anna Roberts of Brooks, and Sheila Moody and her husband, Ronald, of Standish; brothers-in-law Edgar Skanes of Skowhegan; Robert Roberts and his wife, Patricia, of Brooks, Arthur Roberts and his wife, Cyndy, of Carrollton, Texas; and many special nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Edward and George; sister, Rosemary Skanes; son, Dale Andrew in 1967; and grandson, Tory Alan in 1999.
His family wishes to thank his dedicated physician, Dr. John Irwin of Waterville, and the physicians, nurses and staff at Eastern Maine Medical Center for years of wonderful care.
Services will be held in the spring and arrangements will be announced at a later date. Gifts in his memory may be sent to CancerCare of Maine, c/o Healthcare Charities, 1 Cumberland Place, Suite 300, Bangor, ME 04401.

To Our Dear Wren Family,
Francis was not just a brother-in-law to Ronnie and I - he was more like a brother to both of us. He had such a great personality with a fun sense of humor (always teasing me)!
We feel very blessed to have been to so many of your family get-togethers at the Wren farm. We are always treated like we are a part of your Wren family. Always including/inviting us to any family celebrations.
"Charnie" (Charlene) my dear sister - Francis was so lucky to have you love and take care of him for 54 years plus. The two of you were a great team in bringing up your sons and working so very hard on your dairy farm.
Charnie, we love you and your family so much.
God Bless you all,
David and Alisa Oliver

Dear Charlene,Franny,Alferd,George,Daniel,
Dana & Family,
God saw you were getting tired,
And a cure was not to be,
So he put his arms aroind you
And whispered, "Come to me".
With tearful eyes we watched you,
And saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Gentle hands at rest.
God broke our heats to prove to us,
He only takes the BEST.

Francis Wren Sr. and I met 14 years ago. Francis was my patient and I his respiratory therapist. Francis was a gift. He provided me and all of his care-givers the insight to acknowledge him as a PERSON not a "patient in room 610". In my mind and heart, Francis was the "Man" who all should become. Indeed, along with his caring wife, Francis, the man, further extended his love, kindness and consideration through his family. Truly, your family is a blessing for us observers. Francis will forever be part of my heart. Thank you Francis for gifting me with your presence. May God continue to bless the Wren Families.

Charlene, Fran and Marcia, Dan and Lynn and families-
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you at this time. Francis was quite a man and throughout the years of getting to know him as a patient, he was well liked and respected for his quiet strength and fight. He was a very nice man with a wonderful partner in Charlene. May you find peace ahead in knowing that he is at rest and no longer ill. God Bless

I never got to know Francis Wren as well as I would have liked. I did get to know several of his sons better than their dad. I always felt that they were a true reflection of their father. They were well schooled in facing a task in an uncomplaining way. They were a joy to be around, and all possessed an extremely high level of integrity. Since they all seemed to have the same characteristics, it had to be a product of their training, and of course, it was. He, with the help of Charlene, is leaving this world with a trememdous legacy. The Wren family tree will never have a stronger branch than they have together produced.
I know that the road traveled by Fancis was, at times, rough and steep. But I would bet my bottom dollar that he would say, "Even though the journey at times was rough, it was well worth the trip."
Somewhere these words will be spoken, "Francis Wren, a job well done!"
