She was born May 5, 1941, in Gardiner, Maine. She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Thelma Newton; half brother John Newton and nephew Michael Newton.
She is survived by her daughter, Elaine Hodge; son David Nadeau (Susan); two granddaughters, Kaitlin and Paula Nadeau; grandson Evan Hodge, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; brothers Charles Whitcomb (Betsy) of Falmouth, Maine, Ronald Newton (Jill) of Manchester, Maine, Roland Newton (Sandy) of Hallowell, Maine; three special friends, Priscille Janson of Jacksonville, Gladys Keene and Eleanor Hardcastle, both of Manchester; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a 1959 graduate of Cony High School in Augusta, Maine, and was employed by the State of Maine. She retired after 19 years with St. Vincent's Medical Center. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend.
A memorial service will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 2 at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Ave., Orange Park, FL 32073; 904-264-1233. A graveside memorial will be held in Manchester, Maine, where she loved to travel to visit family and friends.
