He was born in Bath on July 22, 1919, the son of John and Harriett (Farnham) Morris. He was a graduate of Cony High School's class of 1939. He served in the Army for four years during World War II. After serving his country, he was employed by Central Maine Power Co., from which he retired after 39 years of service.
Although he had no children of his own, he was a father figure to many, helping to raise his two nephews, Kenny and George. In his later years, he married the former Esther Burke Day, and they enjoyed many wonderful years together.
He was a true gentleman, with a kind and gentle spirit. He wanted for nothing, and appreciated everything. Those who knew him never heard him complain. He was a soft spoken, humble, and precious man, who truly was one of a kind. Herb enjoyed working on his farm, listening to hymns, and helping his family.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Esther Morris; a sister, Nellie True; two brothers, Edgar Morris and Kenneth Morris Sr.; and step-daughter, Lois Bailey.
Herb is survived by his nephews, Ken Morris Jr. and wife Rosalie of Windsor, George Morris and wife Shelly of Augusta, John Morris of Belfast, Tom True of North Berwick, and Tim True and wife Colleen of Chelsea; nieces Harriet Morris and husband David Thum of Readfield and Sylvia Brown and husband Fred of Augusta; and stepchildren, Marie McLean and husband Everett of Oakland, Larry Day and wife Kathy of Fairfield and Susan Bishop and husband John of Houlton; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Mount Hope Cemetery, Winthrop Street, Augusta, with Pastor Nancy Pais officiating.

what a wonderful wonderful WONDERFUL man. The smile on his face always made my day. I absolutely adored him and i am so heartbroken to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers to his family, the world - once again - lacks an amazing soul!
