Lana Vanderweide Obituary
1945 - 2017
AUGUSTA - Lana Vanderweide, 72, of Augusta, passed away quietly in the early hours of Monday, Oct. 16, 2017, while in hospice care at MaineGeneral Medical Center.
Lana was born in Boston, Mass., in 1945, the oldest child of Leo and Doris Terjenian. She married her high school sweetheart and husband of 52 years, Harry Vanderweide, before moving to Saint Albans, Vt., finally settling in Augusta in 1971.
Lana, a natural caregiver, was a nurse for 36 years at MaineGeneral in Augusta, where she cared for over 18,000 babies and their families.
She was predeceased by her parents; her sister Sherry (Bartolino) Krol, of Charlestown, Mass.; and her brother-in-law, John Wilcox.
In addition to her husband, Lana is survived by her son, Brad Vanderweide and his husband Al Ridolfo, of New York, N.Y., and Litchfield; her son, Doug Vanderweide, of Fort Worth, Texas; her daughter, Elizabeth Vanderweide and her husband Michael Dovinsky, of West Gardiner; her daughter, Amanda Banister and her husband David, of West Gardiner; her two sisters, Cathy Miles, of West Hollywood, Calif.; and Laura Wilcox, of Douglas, Mass.; her grandchildren: Taylor Banister and Taylor's fiancée, Michael Hersom, Ryan Banister, Skylar Sigman and Sarah Dovinsky; and her friends, colleagues and the thousands of babies, new mothers and patients she cared for over her career.
A celebration of Lana's life will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, at New Life Christian Fellowship, 187 Sewall St. in Augusta. Arrangements are under the care of Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.

So sorry to read of Lana's passing. She worked with my mom at Augusta General for many years, and was one of my first visitors when my son was born. Doug and Brad, you and your family have my warmest thoughts and condolences. It's not easy to lose your mom.
