Lydia Chase Obituary

Lydia Isabel Atwood Chase
1917 - 2017

SALEM, N.H. - Lydia Isabel Atwood Chase went "home" peacefully while at Salem Haven Nursing Home in Salem, N.H., on Jan. 13, 2017.

For the previous three years, she had been living with her daughter Marnie, after leaving her home in Whitefield, Maine.

Lydia was born the second child of John and Eola Congdon Atwood, of Bath, in 1917.

Her parents; brothers, Norman, Reginald, Alan and Richard; plus husband Norman Chase and their son Daniel, predeceased her.
She is survived by brother Ronald, of Whitefield; sister Patricia, of Port Richey, Fla.; her children, Stephen, of Seneca, S.C.; David, of Portland; Peter, of Ft. Worth, Texas; and Marjorie (Marnie) of Salem, N.H.

She leaves in her legacy a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and Maria Patfoort, of Whitefield, who joined the family in the 1960s from The Congo.

Lydia thrived into her 100th year as a friend and inspiration to all who knew her. For over 70 years she lived on Happy Farm in Whitefield, where she and Norman raised their family and became an integral part of that still-thriving community. They are and will continue to be remembered fondly by many.

Lydia made an impact wherever her foot landed, whether in her hometown or in later years in Seneca, S.C., and Salem, N.H. She was a woman of integrity and stalwart in all her ways. She was known to all for her motto: "God is Good."

We welcome any and all of you to celebrate her long and bountiful life with us on Feb. 18 at Calvary Bible Baptist Church, 150 Grand Army Rd., Whitefield, at 1 p.m.; and again on Feb. 19 at 1 p.m., at Centerpoint Community Church, 101 School St., in Salem, N.H.

A Giant has left us. She was a huge influence on my spiritual life growing up in Whitefield. Lydia once knitted me a pair of mittens! I loved this lady and am sorry to see her leave but I know she is with the Lord.
May God bless her family!
