Mary Kilcoyne Obituary

Mary Jane (Prescott) Kilcoyne
1949 - 2016
WESTBROOK - Mary Jane (Prescott) Kilcoyne, 66, formerly of Gardiner, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at her home in Westbrook, due to complications of a degenerative neuro-muscular disease.
She was born in Augusta on August 18, 1949, the daughter of Robert and Pauline (Bragdon) Prescott. Mary Jane was educated in the Augusta school system and was a 1967 graduate of Cony High School. She pursued a career in banking, retiring from the profession in 2008.
Mary Jane was married to the love of her life, Joseph Kilcoyne, for over 45 years, and together they welcomed two beautiful daughters, Julie and Jennifer, into the world. To say that her daughters were the center of her being is an understatement.
Mary Jane was a private person who appreciated simplicity in life. Her favorite pastimes were gardening, quilting, sewing, caring for her beloved cocker spaniels, and spending time with her beloved granddaughters. The flowers she raised exemplified her beauty as a person. She was very kind and giving, always prioritizing the needs of others before her own.
Mrs. Kilcoyne was predeceased by her father, Robert Prescott, in 1959 and her mother, Pauline Bragdon Prescott, in 1999. She is survived by her dedicated, loving husband Joseph, who cared for her needs until the end; her daughters, Julie Kilcoyne of Portland and her long-time companion Bruce Maasbyll of Yarmouth and their English setter Patches, and Jennifer Weliczka and husband Kenneth and their daughters Abby and Emma, and their cocker spaniel Molly, of Williston, Vt.; her loving brother George Prescott of Old Orchard Beach and his children, Cory and Sarah, of Boston; and her faithful cocker spaniel Murphy, who never left her side.
A celebration of life for Mary Jane will be held at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta, on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Jennifer and family, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your mom. She was a wonderful woman, who welcomed me into your home so many times as a kid, she probably thought I forgot where I lived! I will never forget her, and am so sorry for your loss.

It has been my great honor and privilege to have been married to my sweet heart and the love of my life, Mary Jane, these past 45 years and 7 months. My regret is that our time together was far too short, but I am glad that her terrible suffering these past months has mercifully ended. She was the kindest most understanding wife a man could ever want. Always ready to forgive my faults and to help me in any way she could. She did a terrific job raising our two daughters and was absolutely devoted to our two granddaughters. She truly had a heart of gold and was the most giving person I have ever known. I don't know how I can go on living without her and look forward to the time when we will be reunited in the life to come. It can't come soon enough for me. Mary Jane, I will love you for ever ... your devoted husband Joe.

My beautiful mother Mary Jane was the most positive, optimistic woman I have met. My mother remained hopeful until the end. I was blessed with the opportunity to provide respite and be an active part in her care. She enjoyed a lovely mother's day weekend with gifts, flowers, prayers, and lots of warm wishes. She was always grateful for everyday. I had the honor of tucking my mother into bed and kissing her goodnight the Monday before she passed and I will always cherish that memory. I wanted nothing more than to have my beautiful mother healthy again. My mother was sent to earth August 18th, 1949 and returned to heaven May 10th, 2016.
Love you forever mom. You will always be in my heart.
Your daughter,
Julie

We are so sad to hear of Mary Jane's passing. We can only imagine the loss you are all feeling. She was a very loving & gentle person who gave of herself to all who knew her. I have so many fond memories of times we shared when we were kids.
We will be unable to attend her funeral as we are traveling back home from the west coast, but will be thinking of you all.
She is gone from this world but lives on in your hearts.

Maryjane was one of the kindest people I have ever met. She and Joe were our neighbors for 5 years and she treated my 2 children as if they were her own grandchildren. Every time I will go by her house and see her beautiful flowers in bloom I will think of the beautiful person she was inside and out. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family at this sad time but know she is at peace with know more suffering and pain and she is gone home with our lord. My family and myself are going to miss her terribly as we loved her as if she was family. Joe Julie and Jen our thoughts and prayers are with you. Love the Towle family
