Michael F. Betts
1954 - 2017
MANCHESTER - Michael F. Betts, 63, of Manchester, passed away Monday, Aug, 7, 2017, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, after suffering a three-week, serious short-term illness.
He was born April 18, 1954, in Gardiner, the son of G. Robert Betts and Frances (Howard) Betts. He attended school in Gardiner and was a graduate of Winthrop High School.
Michael worked 30 years as a welder/steamfitter and retired from Local Union 716 out of Augusta. He also was a 27-year member of the Elks Lodge #964 in Augusta.
After retirement, Michael loved going to Popham Beach, was an avid golfer in both the Elks and seniors leagues, and most importantly, "His Beloved Birds!"
He leaves behind his companion, Darlene Jacques Simoneau, and her children, Paul and Amiee; sister, Kimberly Nightingale, and her companion, Samuel Clark; brother, David E. Betts, and wife Mary; sister-in-law, Geri Betts; nieces and nephews, Andrew, Alyssa, and Adam Betts, Chris Betts and wife Dasha, and Erica Betts; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Noah, Amelia, Arianna and Soreen.
He was predeceased by his parents, G. Robert and Frances Betts; his brother, Robert C. Betts; and sister, Betty Lou Betts.
He will be sadly missed by all.
Per his request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. There will be a graveside service at a later date at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Gardiner. Messages of condolence may be sent to:

I've known Mike for many years as he was close to my Dad. He always greeted me with a hand shake and a smile and always followed my son in sports. Such great guy, good friend, and brother Elk. He will be missed but not forgotten. My condolences to Darlene and his family

Mike was one of my best friends at WHS . He had locker # 1 and I had locker #2 . Somehow my lunches were always missing from my locker at noontime . So many good times and so many laughs The years have passed by so fast ! The memories of Mike at WHS will never fade away ! My thoughts are with you David at this most differ cult time .
