Paul Brouillard Obituary

Paul Earle Brouillard
1952 - 2016
CASTINE - Paul Earle Brouillard, 64, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016.
Paul was an unforgettable character who was larger than life. He left an indelible mark on everyone he met and was able to bring laughter to almost any situation. He was known for his incredible vision, his humble yet immense love and generosity for others, and his unapologetic honesty.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He took great pride in his three daughters and cherished the time he spent with his grandson, teaching him how to play cribbage and gamble, among many other things. To many, he was like a second father.
Paul was born March 23, 1952, in Haverhill, Mass., to Paul A. and Jean E. Brouillard. Paul traveled the country before moving to Ogunquit, where his passions for art and food began. He then moved to Bath and opened the Harbor Light Café and Front Street Deli, some of his first entrepreneurial endeavors of the many, many more to follow.
In 1978, Paul sailed the East coast with his sister Cathy before heading back to Maine. Paul settled in Castine in 1980, where he met and married Sara Petterson Brouillard.
Over the last 36 years, Paul and Sara's endeavors transformed Castine. He restored numerous condemned and dilapidated buildings and founded businesses that had lasting impacts on the town of Castine, including the Manor Inn, Hatch Cove Estates, Petty's Pizza, the Castine Harbor Lodge, the Village Inn (Bah's Bakehouse), Grocer on the Green, and Dennett's Wharf. The last project he started with his wife was Nautilus Island, which was dear to their hearts.
Paul is survived by his daughters, Bianca, Astrid, and Chantal; grandson, Raul; brother, Gary, and wife Carolyn, and children Josh, Sasha, and Robert; sister, Cathy, and husband, Arnold and children, Larry, Matthew, and Kristin, and granddaughter Zeila; and many other nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by his wife, Sara.
A memorial service for Paul Brouillard will be held Saturday, Nov. 19, at 11 a.m. at the Main Street Trinitarian Church in Castine, with a reception to be held after at Dennett's Wharf Restaurant. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Bucksport (mitchelltweedie-young.com).

The Heart of Castine

November 17, 2016

To Paul's daughters and family. I had the privilege of meeting and working with Paul on the Dennett's Wharf project. His mission was to restore and improve another project, not only for his own satisfaction but for his family. Paul became a friend the minute we met. He made me laugh with his stories and made me appreciate his love for life as I got to know him. My deepest sympathy to you all.

Sincerely,

Jim Quinn
