He was born May 6, 1951, in Skowhegan, the son of Merle L. and Virginia (Garland) Lloyd.
He graduated from Madison High School in the class of 1969.
He married the former Karen Smith on Nov. 5, 1983, in Anson.
Peter went to work for the family business, Merle L. Lloyd & Sons, shortly after graduating from high school and spent 38 years with the business, retiring in 2008.
He enjoyed spending time at the family camp in Embden, going boating and four-wheeling. He was a huge Patriots fan and he loved spending time with his family.
Besides his wife of 28 years, Karen, of Madison, he is survived by his two children, Scott Lloyd, and his wife, Renee, of Norridgewock, and Megan Wise and her husband, Sprague Wise Jr., of Eustis; two siblings, Linda Henderson and her husband, Tim, of Ellsworth, and Jeff Lloyd and his wife, Elaine, of Madison; two granddaughters, Sierra and Whitney; one great-granddaughter, Layla; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Lisa Lloyd; and his mother and father.
In keeping with Peter's wishes, no service will be held at this time.
The Lloyd family would like to express its sincerest thanks for the wonderful help and care provided by the nurses of the Alfond Cancer Center, as well as the comfort and healing given by Androscoggin Hospice and Home Care.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
Donations may be made in Peter's memory to the American Cancer Society, Northern New England Region, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086-1240.

Our family would like to thank you all sincerely for your condolences, your prayers, and your moving messages.
Today marks two weeks since I watched my father take his last breath and sink peacefully, moving away from the arms of his earthly family, and into the embraces of our loved ones in heaven. My father is all the more conspicuous in his absence.
His smile, his wonderful hugs, his concern, his encouragement, his counsel – things so genuine, borne from love so unconditional; the love of a parent has no match. And even more remarkable, these things remained constant throughout his illness and in his dying. He taught me so much about dying with grace, with patience, with forgiveness, with acceptance, and with courage. These lasting gifts, given in his death, are lessons that I will not stow away, only to be considered upon my own passing from this life to the next, but are to be carried out in the living I am doing at this very moment. Thank you, Dad, for everything.
This message board will remain up and available throughout the coming year for anyone wishing to leave more messages, post pictures, or just to check in.
Again, our thanks to you all, and please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers as well.
God bless

So sad to hear that Peter is gone. He was such a fun chum during our high school years. He stood behind me during a difficult time in my life. I weep with mixed blessings in thinking about my dad, Leo opening the gates of heaven to tell him a story of how he made a place on the 7th green for Peter to learn heavenly golfing with Leo as the grand master. My heartfelt sympathy to all of us who knew him and loved him!

It was a great pleasure to work for Pete. From that work relationship a great friendship was formed, which then turned into a brotherhood, a lifelong bond. Pete you will be missed but, you have left a legacy that will be hard to match. I know you haven't been in Heaven very long but, "How ya like it far as you've been". I know you're probably busy there I can hear you saying.."Its time to make the donuts!!" Someday we'll all be there with you "sounds like a plan" right? Until then we'll hold you in our hearts, prayers and memories..lots and lots of great memories.
