He was born in Skowhegan Feb. 2, 1927, the son of Louis and Melina (Lessor) Charrier, and attended schools in Skowhegan. He married Beatrice Corson Dec. 19, 1953, in Skowhegan.
Duke worked in textile mills and Medwed Shoe Shop for several years. He later owned and operated a disposal service for 15 years.
He was a man of wisdom and always had great advice whether you wanted to hear it or not. He could also tell you stories about the good old days.
Duke enjoyed hunting fishing at Brass Way Lake and their camp on Iron Bound Pond with his family and friends. He also enjoyed working in his vegetable garden. Most of all, he had a great love for his grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Beatrice Charrier; two daughters, Sandra Lord and her husband, Richard, of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Vicki Smith of Skowhegan; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Charrier of Skowhegan; two sisters, Tillie Whittemore and her husband, Carlton, and Jeannette Jarvais; a brother, Rodney Charrier and his wife, Marion; two special sisters-in-law, Ruth and Valetta; eight granddaughters, Angel Perkins and her husband, Jeff, Trudy Shusta and her husband, Anthony, Tammie Frederick and her husband, Keith, Staci Tozier and her husband David, Danielle Charrier, Andrea Kane and her husband, Jason, Devin, Tanya Smith; 14 great-grandchildren, Amanda Black and her husband, Shane, Brad Perkins, Hank and Dean Frederick, Kaitlyn, Kaden and Kolby Tozier, Austin, Ben and Emma Kane, Erick and Ethan Cunliffe, Gabrielle Smith; two great-great-grandchildren, Logan and Addison Black; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his son, Wayne Charrier; three sisters, Loraine Poulin, June Ward and Ramona Sirois; four brothers, Robert, Lewis II, Bernard and Gary Charrier; one great-granddaughter, Shelbi Frederick and son-in-law, Harry Smith.
The family would like to thank HealthReach and Hospice and his health care provider, Wendy Dicranian, for their loving care and support they gave us at our time of need. "You're the Best."
A graveside service will be announced and held in the spring at Calvary Cemetery in Skowhegan. At the family's request there will be no funeral or visitation hours.
