Rita L. Gilbert
1925 - 2018
AUGUSTA - Rita L. Gilbert, 93, died Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta following a long illness. She was born in Augusta on March 19, 1925, a daughter of the late Arthur and Estelle (Lebel) Levesque.
She graduated from St. Augustine School and was employed at local shoe manufacturing companies in the Augusta area for over 30 years.
Mrs. Gilbert was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne Society and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Bernard O. Gilbert, two brothers Andrew and Hector Levesque and a sister, Cecile Douin.
Mrs. Gilbert is survived by two sons, Roland A. Gilbert and his wife Carmen of Milford, N.H. and Paul G. Gilbert and his wife Lisa of Cumberland Foreside, a daughter Lorraine L. Gilbert of Augusta; a brother Robert Levesque and his wife Aurea of Augusta, a sister Yvette Rouleau and her husband Gerard of Augusta; eight grandchildren, Paul, James, Ana-Ramona and her husband Kyle, Angela and her husband Gregory, Joseph, Matthew, Christopher and David; four great-grandchildren, Cameryn, Lilly, Anthony and Adeline; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may visit on Friday, June 1, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where members of the Ladies of St. Anne Society are asked to meet at 2 p.m. to recite prayers for their departed member. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 2, at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta. : Burial and committal prayers will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 12 noon at the old Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Dr., Augusta.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and staff at the Alfond Center for Health for the care and compassion they showed to Rita during her time in their care.

To the Gilbert Family - Your Mom always made your home such a welcome place to visit. She had quite a task making all of "her boys" (myself and your Dad included) behave, but she pulled it off beautifully. My prayers are with you.
