He was born in Waterville on Dec. 24, 1945, the son of William Walter and Dorothy Ellen (Mower) Harding Jr.
William leaves behind a large family of children and grandchildren who will miss him dearly. William had three children from his 30-year marriage to Donna Harding, his late wife: Bill Harding and wife Gina, Suzette Stuart and husband Shaun, and Crystal Harding and fiancŽ Chris. William had six grandchildren, Destiny, 8; Ethan, 7; Crysten, 5; Nathan, 4; Chris Jr., 2; and the newest addition, baby Jacob, 1 month.
He also had three children from a previous marriage, William W. Harding IV, Jill Harding and Chris Harding. He is also survived by his brother, Trevison Harding and wife Geraldine, of Fairfield.
Slug was a very independent man who wanted to do things his own way, in his own time. He didn't let his conditions and limited resources hold him back from activities he enjoyed sharing with his family. Slug managed to get out of the house and take part in various activities such as family activities and school functions. He also enjoyed watching baseball and football, especially the New England Patriots.
He was a soft-hearted, humble man who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
It is a real loss to start the day off without seeing that glowing smile that radiated in our hearts, reminding us that we could always make a difference every day. We know that he lives on within our hearts.
