Bruce Jeffrey Holan, 55

SHOREWOOD, Wisc. - Bruce Jeffrey Holan, long-time resident of Shorewood, Wisc., passed away unexpectedly in his home on June 1, 2018, at the age of 55.

Bruce was born in Portland, Maine, and lived in Vermont, New Jersey, New York and Wisconsin while growing up. As a young adult, Bruce also lived in Vail, Colo. and Jackson, Wy.

Bruce graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and settled in Shorewood. Bruce worked in the fields of journalism, graphic design, and marketing, and established Wall Graphics in 1995, working as a writer, editor, and graphic designer. Bruce began his career at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and spent many years working for the Waukesha Freeman, where he trained in many positions within the newsroom, served as a reporter, and eventually settled-in as an editor and graphic designer.

Bruce also worked for several years as a program coordinator with the Grand Avenue Club in Milwaukee, where his dedication and passion for the community members allowed him to excel, as he worked tirelessly to help make a difference in the lives of the individual Grand Avenue Club members.

Bruce was known for his dedication and love for his family, his compassion for others, his easy smile and his quick wit and sense of humor. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially going on camping trips throughout Wisconsin with Jessie and Nora. Bruce also enjoyed fly-fishing, cycling, tending to his vegetable garden, and downhill skiing.

Bruce is survived by his beloved wife, Jessie Bamberger; stepdaughter Eleanor "Nora" Gillham; his father, Victor Holan (MJ Larned) of Falmouth, Maine, mother Ann Tisdale (late Stuart Tisdale) of Shorewood; half-sister Sally Scribner (John) of Falmouth, brother Scott Holan (Tena) of Shorewood; five stepbrothers Stuart Tisdale of Portland, Walter Tisdale (Katie) of Bangor, Malcolm Tisdale (Kerrie) of Winnipeg, Canada, Andrew Tisdale (Nesrin) of London, England, Ward Tisdale of Austin, Texas. Bruce was a loving uncle to niece, Haley Holan and nephew, Jared Holan, both of Shorewood, and Will Thomas of New York, N.Y., Jack Scribner of Falmouth, and Molly Scribner of Falmouth, and by many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family will greet friends on Friday, June 8, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Feerick Funeral Home followed by a Time of Remembrance honoring Bruce's life at 6:00 p.m. Interment will be private for the family.
