Carol Record Obituary

Carol Woodcock Record
PORTLAND -- Carol Woodcock Record, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the Cedars Skilled Care Center in Portland.
She was born March 14, 1929 in Lewiston, the daughter of Hazel and Karl Woodcock. She attended Lewiston schools through her sophomore year and finished her last two years of high school at Gould Academy, in Bethel.
Carol attended Bates College for two years where she met her future husband Horace 'Hod' Record and she continued her education at the University of Illinois, while Hod was in the Air Force. Carol and Hod were married 1953 after Carol graduated from the University of Illinois and they returned to New England where Carol became a kindergarten teacher in Windsor, Conn. Carol and Hod started a family with the birth of their first son Andy in 1957. After Hod finished his actuarial exams, they moved to Cape Elizabeth where Hod pursued his career as an actuary at Union Mutual. Their second son Scott was born in 1963.
Carol enjoyed being a homemaker and sewing. She enjoyed photography and was a member of the Portland Camera Club. While bringing up her children, Carol continued her education at the Maine College of Art where she learned silver smithing. She fashioned many pieces of jewelry and created other works of art using rocks found along the coast of Maine. Carol spent many summers in Cushing and enjoyed listening to classical music and walking along the seashore. She also liked to research her ancestry and enjoyed writing about her mother and father's background.
Carol and Hod lived in Cape Elizabeth until 2002 when they moved to the Atrium Retirement Community at the Cedars in Portland. The Cedars facilities have allowed them more time to relax and be with their family and friends. The social atmosphere at the Atrium enriched Carol's life for many years.
Carol is survived by her husband Hod; her son Andy, her son Scott and his wife Beth; her brother Richard Woodcock and his wife Mary; and several nieces and nephews and their children. She is predeceased by her brother, Eugene Woodcock.
