Carolyn Hovermale Obituary

Carolyn Hovermale, 86
FALMOUTH -- Carolyn Hovermale, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, June 4, 2011, after a six year struggle with Alzheimer's.
Throughout the progress of this devastating disease, she remained a vivacious personality who loved to laugh. She had a love of music and right up to the end, would tap her feet to the beat of any lively bit of music she heard, especially jazz. To many of her caregivers at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth, she was known as their southern belle.
She was born on May 1, 1925, in Cape Charles, Va. Her parents died when she was a young girl, and she lived with her older sister Lucille Corkran and her husband Emerson.
In 1950, she married Kenneth Hovermale. They lived in Midland, El Paso and Dallas, Texas, Seattle, San Francisco, and Baltimore, before retiring on Kent Island, Md. Kenneth passed away in 1998 and she lived the last six years in Maine.
She was predeceased by her sisters Lucille and Mary, and her brother James, all of Virginia. She is survived by her son, Ken of North Yarmouth; daughter-in-law
Carolyn Hovermale
Sheila Bellefleur; her grandchildren, Kyle of Asheville, N.C., and Paul of Los Angeles; and her great-grandchildren, Siena of Los Angeles and Madelyne of Asheville.
She had many friends of longstanding, some dating back to childhood who kept in regular contact with her even after she fell ill. Throughout her full life, she brought a special light and joy into any room she entered.
Ken would like to thank the staff at Sedgewood Commons who not only cared for her but loved and respected her as a part of their family.
She will be cremated and her ashes taken to rest beside her husband in Easton, Md. A service will later be held for her in Cape Charles, the place she loved more than any other. Arrangements are by Independent Death Care, 660 Brighton Ave., Portland. To offer words of condolence, sign a guest book and share memories, go to the obituary page at www.independentdeathcare.com.

Ken and Sheila,

I was saddened to hear of Carolyn's passing. You will be continually in my prayers. As you may remember, she was my favorite resident when she was at Bay Square in Yarmouth. I was able to visit her from time to time after she moved to Falmouth. She always had a big smile and in my heart I felt that she was happy to see me. I remember bringing her a little gift on May 1st one year for her birthday. I remember holding her hand and telling her how beautiful she looked. She truly captured my heart. You have my deepest sympathy. Heaven must be rejoicing now because another Angel has entered in.
