Dave and I had far too many laughs together, especially when we got into an airplane! Dave checked me out in the Cessna 208 many years ago. I learned many intricacies of the airplane during those flights. He was a great instructor. I will miss the discussions about computers and the RAPTOR software we both worked with. Dave will be missed by many but certainly not forgotten. Rest in Peace, my friend.

Even in retirement, I can still remember walking into Dave's office to ask his help with a computer problem. He was always glad to help. Dave was a pleasure to work with. His love and admiration of his family was obvious by the smile he would have whenever he talked about them. Just a good guy that left us too early.

As a FAA Regional Office Inspector who often had the pleasure of working with Dave on safety and enforcement matters,I was so very saddened to learn of his untimely passing. Every interaction with him, whether on the phone or in person at the Portland office, always left me smiling and certain we had accomplished our goal. Aviation and the FAA have lost a skilled, vibrant resource.. His family and coworkers have lost fine man.
My sincere sympathies to all.

Dave is one of the people that made a tremendous impact in my life. He gave me my first flying lesson and told me about Embry-Riddle. Little did he know that this simple thing would set the course for my entire professional career in aviation. I'm sure you had the same effect on many people. Many thanks Dave.

Dave was a great guy and a mentor tome when I was young. He helped me so much in my early flying career by getting my first flying job, taking me under his wing and just being a good friend. He was the reason I met my wife. You will be greatly missed.

Dear Knowles Family and friends: Dave was a fine Gentleman and great guy with a tremendous sense of humor and kind demeanor toward all. We had many conversations about our families and I can truly say that he was a family man who loved his family very much. We also shared our love of aviation whenever we spoke. He was one of the best, if not the best, FAA Aviation Safety Inspectors that I have had the distinct pleasure of working with. He was a pioneer in many aviation safety related matters. He was a kind and gentle soul and God will have him. Peace, FAA Senior Attorney John Donnelly
