Big Dave, I miss you every day and I cherish the many memories of time spent with you. You certainly were a bright light in my life and Maryalice's too. " How do you like me now?", along with your mischievous and loving grin is something Maryalice and I hold dear.

My memory of David MacLean will always be in my heart, he was the only person I ever knew from Maine, and he could describe his life very vividly. He was at Ft Lewis, WA. waiting to return to Brunswick. Many years later, I received a letter from Mabe and Dave, So special, was a blessing. Love you forever, Mary Classen Bell in Washington state.

It is now the 19th month on your 19th day,
when you went so far away.
God called you home and asked I stay,
and so we two obeyed.
Days have come and days have gone,
and at times they seem so forever long.
But than again the loss is new,
and heart felt pain is all so true.
Your always on my mind and in my heart,
for we two know we shall never part.
Love, Just Me

Dear Mabel,
We extend our love & sympathy to you as you face this new chapter in your life. With the recent passing of our daughter, we know all too well how heavy simple daily routines, can feel over-whelming. As we ourselves have learned, sweet memories are so priceless. May God Bless you in ways only "He" can. Praying for friends to comfort you, Faith to uphold you, and Loving memories to cary you through. With Love, Kevin & Cindy

Dear Mabe,
I heard about Dave. I wanted to write you a short note and tell you how sad I was to hear. Dave was such a neat guy. Pam and I would sit in your restaurant and listen to his hair raising stories. He was tough and hard but a mashmellow inside - at least that's what he appeared to be. I've included a couple of photos of when he let me come and photograph him. I am very sad about his passing. My thoughts are with you.
Hugs Jeff

A year today you could not stay,
Things are okay since you've been away.
Each day I wake with heart break,
Time they say will heal the ache.
Until then our memories will have to do,
For the winds have taken you to sea until we meet again in God's Eternity.

Oh, David...I just learned of your passing. Amanda sent me an email today that was intended for another Leslie and when I responded to her message I asked about you. What a shock. My heart is filled with grief and sorrow and at the same time it is flooded with such wonderful memories of times spent with you and Mabel. You were a remarkable human being, true to yourself and the people you loved. You didn't mince words and always spoke your truth. And behind that tough exterior was the gentlest man I have ever known. I know that wherever you are Dave you are regaling your new buddies with side splitting stories. Mabe, I am sending you much love. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I will be in touch with Maryalice later this morning.

Dave and I talked about lots of things in the two weeks before he died. I'll never forget him telling me about finding real, all-consuming love for the first time late in life, when he met Mabel. She was all he could think about back then. When we were talking it was obvious he was still so deeply in love with Mabe. Dave was like that; some things about him never changed.

God must have needed a big, strong angel in Heaven, Dad, or He would not have taken you from us so soon. I am so grateful and my heart is comforted knowing that you are at peace, and no longer in such pain and suffering.
I'm also grateful that you took the time to come visit me every week after my recent surgery. As always in your life, you generously brought food, and told me funny stories from years long past that were so delightful to hear. We laughed together, which I find to be one of your greatest gifts; the ability to bring joy to those you love.
I'm so thankful that our last words to each other were "I love you", followed by a heartfelt, warm hug and a kiss.
Andrea Harris suggested that you, Lester and Alden were "having a blast up there at the OK Corral". I like that image and will hold fast to it until we meet again.
You were a good man and father, and will be forever deeply loved by those who fulfilled the first 20 years of your adult life, (your loving family), and then also by Mabel and several of the Labbe family members in the years that followed.
We will all miss your love and guidance so much. I think of you every day with tears and smiles. No one can ever take away the wonderful memories we share. They are ours and ours alone; and you are my hero. I mean, who else would dare get all of the kids out of the water on a hot summer day at Sebago Lake to go after an enormous water moccasin, which you grabbed and wrestled onto the shore like Tarzan one year??? Pretty cool. I was so proud to tell the other kids, "That's my Dad! He saved us from that huge snake! " They thought you was a superhero too!!
May God Bless you, Dad, for all eternity. Enjoy His wonderful peace and love to the fullest; you've more than earned it!
Lay all your burdens down and embrace the splendor of heaven. I can't wait to hear all about it when I see you next! Forever your loving daughter, Trace

Dear Mabe, "Big Dave"
I met Dave when I was 16 just dating Peter. I had the utmost respect and love for this strong caring man. Dave and Mabe are always so suppotive and caring. They supported us through the years and especially when Alex passed away Dec 30th 2010.
We always looked forward to our visits with "great food" and "great drinks."
Dave was an incredible gardener, we always secretly had a competition on our gardens. He taught me so many tricks, but his garden was always pristine, and mine was always a bunch of weeds.
We will miss his big smile and laugh, and how he shared his love for Mabe with us. He had a rough outer edge with the most tender inside. His stories will live on, and his memory will be strong in our hearts.
I'm sure when Dave got to heaven Alex asked him "Do you know my name?"
We love you Mabe

Dave was a contractor, a customer, and a friend for many years. He was also an original Maine character. You always knew where things stood with Dave and just in case you wondered he would not be long in setting you straight! He will be much missed by us Brunswick old timers. My symphathy to all.

Dear Mabel,
I am so very heart broken for your loss.
I saw the love that you and David had (have), for each other in the few times we were together. And always in times that you and I worked together, there wasn't a day that you did not talk about David, you two just loved being together ; hunting, four wheeling, fishing, visiting friends and family, going for just a ride, lobstering, heading up North. Dreaming about going out west, cooking together , the list go on and on.....you two were so high on life and each other I loved being around you two.!
I am so happy that I had time a few weeks ago to talk with David, I'll treasure that time.
I know firsthand of your strength, YOU have shared it so often with ME.. I know firsthand of your courage, YOU have shared it so gallantly with ME.... I know firsthand of your light, love, laughter and giving of yourself to ME and for ME in dark times...
Mabel, I am here for you.. I love you. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
