Douglas Petersen Obituary

Douglas "Doug" Petersen, 55
PORTLAND - Douglas "Doug" Petersen was born on April 29, 1963, and passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 14, 2018, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident at the age of 55.
Doug is survived by his parents, Phyllis and Ole Petersen of Kemptville, Ontario; wife, Tami Jackson Petersen of Portland, brothers, Jim and Mike Petersen of Kemptville, Ontario; daughter, Shelby Petersen of Oakland; five stepchildren, Tiffany, Jennifer, Christopher, Ashley, and Jordin; four grandchildren, Austin, Lyla, Aubree, and Bentley; along with many other family members in Ontario.
Doug served in the National Guard, graduated with a culinary degree from Kemptville College, received a business degree at Algonquin College, and later got his degree to be an electrical engineer at the KVCC here in Maine. Doug was not only devoted to his own education, but to the education of others. He never missed an opportunity to share his knowledge with anyone.
Doug was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He enjoyed serving others, venturing the outdoors, and being with his family. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
In light of this tragic event, Doug was able to donate his organs to the New England Organ Bank, blessing many other families. Our family is comforted knowing that Doug's last service here on earth was helping other families in need.
A viewing is scheduled for 6:30-8:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 17, at the
Hobbs Funeral Home
, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. Visitation 10-11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 247 Walnut Hill Road, North Yarmouth.

It’s been hard since Doug has been gone, he was my Captain, He taught me so many things and we shared so many interests. I can’t even begin to tell all the memories we shared and the impact he had on my life. SO MANY things remind me of him because everything I enjoy in my life reminds me of him. I miss you, My Captain and Mentor.

Wow! I am in shock. Just a couple of weeks ago Doug sent me a Facebook message to let us be the first to know that he would be moving back to our area on Oct 1st. He said he was looking forward to living closer to Shelby and her daughter and his other grandchildren in the Augusta area. We were looking forward to having him back in our church family. I so wish we had known about his death before now so we could have attended his funeral. My son who lives in California just called me with the news. Doug was a good man who loved the Lord and did much to serve Him and his fellowmen. We would like to extend our condolences to his family.

Doug was a dear friend, and a great member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He will be deeply missed. Prior medical commitments prevented me from attending his services. But I wanted all to know of a great man with honest, integrity and love for all, has sadly left us. Just maybe the Lord need some electrical to be done, and he called Doug home. When I heard of his passing, I cried, because a great man and a good friend has left us. Your Home now Doug"""""
