Dylan McCarthy Obituary
PORTLAND -- Dylan Robert Scott McCarthy, 13, resident of Main Street in Steep Falls died unexpectedly on Friday, April 25, 2008, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
He was born Feb. 9, 1995, in Portland, the son of James F. McCarthy and Larissa Scott. Dylan was a 6th grade student at Bonny Eagle Middle School where he had many friends. Dylan enjoyed working with wood and spending time fishing. He will be mostly remembered by family and friends for his very friendly personality, he loved to make people laugh, enjoyed being around people, goofing around and was always ready to give a good hug. He enjoyed playing video games on Playstation, watching cartoons and professional wrestling and enjoyed following the career of John Cena.
Dylan had recently been attending services weekly at Standish Baptist Church.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Fredrick McCarthy and a maternal great- grandfather, Roy Colby. Survivors include his mother Larissa and her husband Troy Chalou of Steep Falls, his father James F. and his wife Jamie Lynn McCarthy of Westbrook; maternal grandparents Sandra Turgeon, Norm and his wife Darleen Turgeon, Arnold and his wife Martha Scott and Rod and Sylvia Chalou; paternal grandmother Jean McCarthy; maternal great-grandparents Alice Colby, Normand and his wife Rosalie Turgeon and Alphonse Chalou. He is also survived by two brothers, Jamie McCarthy of Steep Falls, and Hunter McCarthy of Westbrook, a sister, Brittany McCarthy of Steep Falls; three step sisters, Kayla and Kristiana Poland, Tatiana Hicks, a step brother Benjamin Poland; an aunt, Lawrene Alexander and three uncles, Ken and his wife Julie Chandler, Don and his wife Nina McCarthy and Arnold Scott and many cousins.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, May 2, 2008, at the funeral home. We were very sorry to hear of Dylan's death. We are pleased that he was able to participate and compete in Special Olympics, making many friends and sharing joy! A moment of silence was shared by all at the recent Cumberland Cty Area Spring Games, in Dylan's memory. Our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

Dylan was an awesome friend!! even though we never really talked,, but he was awesome. his favorite line he said to everyone was "sup dog",, and he is missed very much by the whole Cunningham clan. and others in the school. i miss him so very much and so dont my friends!! sorry britney and everyone for yer loss..

Larissa, Troy, Brittany and Jamie,
I am so sorry for your loss. Dylan was a wonderful child and will be missed by me, and my family. I miss his laugh and smile and most of all i miss him. Very sad what happened and i can't imagine what you are going through. It makes you think and realize that life is to short. Dylan had so much to look forward to and he will be remembered each and every day that he is gone. He remains in my thoughts and my heart always, and i will never forget the memories that he has brought into my life and how much he meant to me and my kids. We love you dylan and miss you very much. Larissa your my best friend and i love you and i'm so sorry for your loss. The loss of a child is the hardest thing a mother can go through.

Larrissa and Family,

He was one of my best freinds and yes he was the best at making me smile he will be gretly missed and always in my heart it is definitly never ever going to be the same with him gone but i would like him to know that even though we ALWAYS picked on eachother (freindly way) i know that he has made a big diffrence on how i see things and to make the family feel better all the kids in cunningham are here if u need us this is very hard for all of us and i give great love to you brittany for having to face school alone now but also knowing he isnt comming back

To the Family of such a wonderful child,
I was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of such a nice young man. Dylan attended school with my daughter Baylee and she always spoke nicely of him. She said he could bring a smile to anyone who was given the chance to meet him. He was always kind to her and would offer kind words of friendship when she was feeling down. She will miss him but said he is in good company and now each of his school friends will have an angel to look after them and guide them through the truimphs and struggles of their remaining school years. His memory and spirits will always remain with all of those who were given the beautiful opportunity to know an angel who lived here on earth even if only for a short time.
