Jeffrey York Obituary

Jeffrey W. York, 51
SCARBOROUGH -- Jeffrey W. York, 51, of South Portland, died unexpectedly on Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, after a brief illness.
Jeff had a dramatic impact on all those around him. He was an extraordinarily giving, warm and friendly individual. He was a person who gave so completely of himself that no one who knew him ever wanted for anything. Jeff was predeceased by his mother Shirley whom he loved dearly, his father Herb and his step-father Ronald Jordan.
Jeff was a 1979 graduate of Portland High School. After receiving his Culinary arts degree from SMVTI, he began his long career in the food industry until achieving his dream of owning his own catering company, York's Catering of South Portland.
Jeff enjoyed music, casinos, avidly loved all New England sports teams and skiing especially as a coach for the Maine Special Olympics. Most importantly, he loved spending quality time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Theresa Baker York; and his two sons, Seth and William. He was the beloved son-in-law of Bo and Judy Baker; his brother Robert and wife Julie, his brother Richard and his sister Linda; one brother-in-law Cole Baker and wife Alex; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be sadly missed by the close knit family of Yorks Catering, especially Jay and Pam Gerrish.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 17, at the First Congregational Church in South Portland.

I think about Jeff everyday, as well as Terri, Seth, and Will. Jeff was so good to me and Victoria. When we needed a father perspective, he always made time.
Personally, jeff and I shared so many laughs. That´s how I keep him in my mind. Laughing.

We were deeply saddened by the news of Jeff's passing. We truly enjoyed working with Jeff. We could always joke around with him and expect the same fun and humor back. We know Jeff really enjoyed driving our yellow truck that leaked!!!We never heard the end of that one. May God Bless you Terry in these difficult days to come. Hopefully wonderful memories will help soften your sorrow.
Sincerely, Mark & Pamela Tibbetts

Terry and family, I am so sorry to hear about this. I saw him give his talent and joy of life to the special needs adults in the ski program where he had an extraordinary ability to find a way around difficulties and help raise people to their shining moments. I'm sure they will never forget his honest caring, and I will always cherish the lessons he taught with lightness and laughter.

Dear Terry, Will and Seth, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. It seems like not too long ago that I would come to your house to drop off or pick up Laura in the days when she and Will would hang out together. Jeff was always friendly and had a quick wit and great sense of humor. I can remember sitting with Jeff at the high school auditorium during an interminable middle school production. I thought we'd get thrown out from laughing too much. He was a great guy. Laura and I are thinking of you all at this very difficult time.

Dear Terry and family -

I am so saddened to hear of Jeff's passing...Jeff loved, his family, his employees (who were also his family) music, food, travel, LIFE.... so inspiring to see him "work" and be in his presence....Jeff's work was his love made visible....I am grateful to have had the chance to work with Jeff and you again for two years -- to be reunited with a man whose work blessed so many people's significant events, who mentored youth, who gave and gave and gave unselfishly in every direction. Sincerest condolences and prayers for your consolation, Gil

It breaks my heart to know that he is not with us physically but will always be in our hearts. My most deepest smypathyies to Terry,

Jeff was a great friend to Camp Ketcha and he will be deeply missed by everyone here. He could be counted on the run Breakfast with Santa or help get Martini Madness off the ground. Jeff always refused to accept any recognition when ever it was offered formally. Probably Jeff's biggest contribution was his coaching of our staff in the business of running a good event rental program. He understood his business well and was generous with his time in helping us. I witnessed Jeff even helping other caterers when they forgot items, didn't allow enough time to set up or otherwise got themselves into trouble. Jeff was one of the very first people I met when I came to Camp Ketcha and his welcome was wonderful. He was the consummate professional and his advice, sense of humor and unflappable competence will be missed by Camp Ketcha and our community as a whole.

My sincere condolences to William York on the passing of his father. I was sent here by way of Nicholas DeHaas, and I understand that you knew him through SP Swimming. Having lost my father back in August of 2010, I can only say that it is a downright miserable experience to lose someone you have known and loved dearly for your entire human existence. Time will pass, but the pain will remain, as it will with all men who have experienced such.

Dead, but not gone, never gone. A memory can not be destroyed, as a legacy cannot be undone. Thrive, laugh, and live as happily and as fully as you can. It is what he would want for you, as all fathers would want for their sons.

Always keep his laughter in your heart...it was surely one not to be forgotten.

Terry,

Our deepest condolences to you and your family. We all loved Jeff and cannot believe he is gone.

Jeff will be missed, especially by Greg, who looked up to Jeff and was a wonderful friend and mentor. As we're sure you know, Greg thought the world of Jeff and truly appreciated his relationship with Jeff as a boss and a friend. I'm sure Jeff helped contribute to how Greg has grown into a young man, and we thank you for that.

Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers and that we are here to help in any way we can.
