Joyce Dimick Obituary

Joyce A. Dimick, 77
SCARBOROUGH - Joyce A. Dimick, 77, died on Friday, April 6, 2018, at Maine Medical Cen-ter, surrounded by her family.
Joyce was born on Aug. 27, 1940, in Portland, the daughter of the late Patrick M. and Marion G. (Kane) Connolly. She grew up in Portland and attended parochial schools, a graduate of Cathedral High School, class of 1958.
When Joyce was 18 years old, she went on a double date with Robert "Bob" Dimick. Little did she know they would share 59 wonderful years together. They married on June 17, 1962, at St. Dominic's Church in Portland. They began their married life in Albany, Ga., where Bob served in the Air Force and they had their first child. The couple later lived in Cleveland, Ohio; Moorestown, N.J.; and Portland, adding one more child to their clan in each state. In 1972, the family settled at Higgins Beach, in Scarborough, where Joyce had summered as a child. For 46 years, Joyce and her family made Higgins Beach the centerpiece of their lives.
Joyce devoted herself to family and friends. She was involved in every aspect of her children's and grandchildren's lives, especially their never-ending sporting events and activities. As for her social life, Joyce enjoyed laughing with her sisters and frequent escapes with her cherished lifelong friends, "The Bridge Ladies." They entertained themselves with festivities beyond mere card playing, such as trips to Broadway shows and swimsuit calendar photo shoots. During her rare, free time, Joyce loved reading (especially history), going to the movies, and watching her beloved Red Sox and Patriots (in her lucky Troy Brown jersey).
Achievements from Joyce's bucket list include her trip to Ireland, witnessing the Patriots' 2004 Super Bowl victory over Dick Hamilton's Philadelphia Eagles and being at Fenway Park for the Red Sox's historic ALCS comeback over the New York Yankees.
Joyce was predeceased by her brothers-in law, Jack McDonough and James Dimick. She is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Dimick, of Scarborough; two sisters, Patricia McDonough of Portland and Dorothy Young of South Portland (and husband Donald); three daughters, Kelly Dimick-Reid, of Scarborough; Julie Dimick-Corbeau and her husband, Stephen, of Scarborough; and Jacqueline Dimick-Rogers, of Yarmouth; a son, Patrick Dimick, of Fairfield, Conn.; six grandchildren, Justin Reid, Joseph Corbeau, Kane Corbeau, Caroline Corbeau, and Lara and Sean Dimick; her Kane cousins; and her many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours and a celebration of Joyce's life will be held from 8-9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at
Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel,
1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress St., Portland. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. To view Joyce's memorial page, or share an online condolence, visit: www.ConroyTullyWalker.com.

When I met Joyce, I saw this bubbly amazing personality that would always be there to lift me up. My grandma Bevi had . house right across from Joyce and I spent so much with her playing "Where is the Duck". It was a wooden duck that I found behind a curtain in her house one day, Joyce told me to close my eyes and she would hide it. I will always remember and cherish those moments with her.

Even for those of us who didn't live across the street, Joyce was the best neighbor we ever had. Always greeted me with a 10 yard smile and seemed ogenuinely interested in my life. She personified a caring person; a gal easy to confide in, pleasant to look at, and fun to spend time with. She made Higgins Beach a WELCOMING place. I feel for the whole Dimick clan. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her footprints on the beach were filled with love.

I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Joyce. I knew Joyce when she worked in one of my areas of responsibility at MEMIC. She was a super employee to work with, a classy lady in every respect and just a wonderful nice person to know.

I'm so sad to hear of Joyce's passing. My mom (Judy Ryder) knew her in school and used to be at HB all the time. I actually worked with Joyce at Maine Bonding in the 80's & 90's. She was a beautiful woman and my condolences go out to you all.

The closest to perfection we may have ever known
Strong and gentle character with little effort shown
We rise above our sorrow to look back and admire
One who set the standard to which we all aspire
Until we meet again

A beautiful lady inside and out. She was always there to lend a hand. She helped me when I was chairman for Little League back when our kids played. Whenever I saw her and on FB. I asked her if she was ever going to look old. My deepest sympathy to all the Dimik family.

My heart is so sad with this news. My deepest sympathy to you all. Every summer when I saw her at the beach she would greet me with a huge hug and tell me I looked the same (40 yrs ago plus) and would offer for me to park at her house. So generous of her. She always had such a beautiful smile and warm heart. I last saw her walking on the beach with two grandsons, this past fall. She was so happy to be with them and on the beach. I'm so sorry for your loss........

Joyce was a beautiful person in so many ways; always warm, friendly, caring and optimistic. We, too, became cottage owners at HB in 1972 and were fortunate to enjoy Joyce and Bob's friendship and help since then. Vesper Street has been blessed with a succession of 'great ladies'over the years and Joyce was pre-eminent among them. Her passing leaves a void in the 'goodness' we have enjoyed at 'Higgins. Our condolences to every member of her family. The 'Beach' will not be the same without her. Carol and Bob Monterio 10 Vesper
