Kevin Grondin Obituary

Kevin P. Grondin, 27
STANDISH - Kevin P. Grondin, 27, of Milt Brown Road, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 2, 2018.
Kevin was born in Portland on Aug. 4, 1990, to Ronald L. Jr. and Jo-Ellen (Cowley) Grondin. He spent his earliest years growing up in Pensacola, Fla.., relocated back to Maine in 2005 and he graduated from Scarborough High School in the class of 2010. From a young age he excelled in sports and was in the T-Ball World Series at the age of five. At age seven he found his love of ice hockey, he went on to become an outstanding goalie and had recorded multiple shutouts by the age of eight.
In 2010, Kevin was involved in a motor vehicle accident in Scarborough which claimed the life of his best friend Steven Delano. Following the accident, he spent several weeks in the hospital and rehabilitation center sustaining short term memory loss, as well as a traumatic brain injury. Kevin fought through and persevered all while mourning the loss of his best friend. His courage, strength, and determination to get better, along with his lifelong commitment to keep his best friend's memory alive, was a shear testament to this amazing young man. Kevin held toy drives for children of the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital, in Steven's memory. He also organized holiday festivities at the accident memorial site; such as a birthday party, pumpkin carving and decorating Christmas trees for Steven's family and friends.
Kevin was determined to get back to work after the accident, taking on part-time jobs at Cabela's and Binga's Stadium. In 2013 he was able to take on a full-time position as an ER Tech at Maine Medical Center before transferring to the Security Department. A position he held for more than two years and received a letter of commendation for his outstanding performance and his ability to control behavioral situations. After leaving his security position he went to work with the Maine Department of Transportation as a transportation worker. During his first year on the job Kevin competed in his first driver rodeo, he did an outstanding job against veteran drivers and placed high in the driver rankings.
When not working, Kevin love being in the outdoors hunting, fishing, riding his Ranger ATV, snowmobiling, ice fishing, or going to Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. His greatest love, however, was the time he spent surrounded by his family, especially his children Kinsley and Landon. They were the loves of his life.
Kevin was predeceased by his best friend, Steven Delano; and his special aunt, Marsha Spearin. He is survived by his parents, Ronald and Jo-Ellen Grondin of Scarborough; a brother, Kyle E. Grondin of Scarborough and his girlfriend Lizz Starbird of Windham; a daughter, Kinsley A. Grondin of Standish, a son, Landon M. Grondin of Standish; his fiance', Kaytlin Buzzell of Standish; paternal grandparents, Ronald L. Grondin Sr., of Scarborough and Sandra L. Grondin of Yarmouth; maternal grandparents, Paul E. and Barbara A. Cowley of Scarborough; special second parents, Mark and Cindy Delano of Scarborough; Peyton Brann whom he held dear to his heart and treated like his own daughter of Windham; a nephew, Brian Grondin of Scarborough; many special aunts, uncles; and cousins.

I am saddened to see that Kevin has passed. But smile because the Lord has him now. I worked with Kevin at Cabelas. He is a fine upstanding young man that was a friend to us all there, part of our family. I was fortunate to have him as a friend.

We meet Kevin though our son Justin when he brought him home one night. He was very pleasant to have at our home. As time went on he came in as part of the family. He would always make us laugh as we all know he had so many stories or actions. I had called him one day during a snow storm to see if he would be able to stop by and plow a path so my wife Terry could make it in. He made time on his way into MMC to cut a path for her. I also remember a time that my wife was in the ER at MMC and that he took time to make sure he stopped into check in on her. He would always call her mom. Kevin always would light up a room. His passing has taken a hold of our hearts. I know that if I see a hawk flying over head or a dear walking by it will be Kevin watching over us to say he is ok. Thank you for letting us knowing him on this earth for the short time but we will remember him forever. Blessed to call him son. Love Doc and Terry Halladay

I remember this face. He was working overnight security. My daughter was in a terrible car accident. This gentleman stopped me to talk. He told me of his past. He gave me comfort and advice. I bet we talked for an hour. It was maybe 2am and I had to step out from my daughters room. He spoke of his children and parents along with his girlfriend. Amazing how certain people touch others lives when they least expect it, seeing this obituary has saddened me. Very sorry for the family and friends loss.

My deepest sympathy to all of you. Kevin was a remarkable person. I met Kevin when we both were working in the ER. He an his cousin also helped my daughter and I move from our apartment a few years back. Kevin was the type of young man that everyone was proud to know. May his internal light shine down on each one of you from the Stars and Heaven Above.
