Pauline Tufts Obituary

Pauline B. Tufts SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. -- Long time Sierra Vista, Ariz., resident Pauline B. Tufts, passed away at home on Monday, June 23, 2008, with her family by her side. Pauline was born in Windham, on Sept. 5, 1927, to Minnie (Cannell) and Ira C. Pollard. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Payson; and her beloved grandson, Mark Wallace. She is survived by her children, Sharon (Tom) Henson and Charles (Dava) Tufts of Bakerfield, Calif., Elizabeth (Dennis) Wallace and Ross Tufts of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Payson Tufts Jr. of Springfield, Ore.; brother John (Eleanor) Pollard and sister-in-law Barbara Pollard of Maine and brother-in-law Gordon Tufts of Nevada. 'Nana' will be missed by her eight grandchildren, Matthew, Kevin, Cynthia, Pauline, Jeffrey, Robert, Megan and Dana; five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Morgan, Kylie, Brooke and Darwin Anna; and special family friends, Murphy and Sharon Tsai. The family made their home in Maine, Wisconsin, Alaska and Virginia before settling in Sierra Vista, Ariz., in 1967. Pauline liked to travel and had the opportunity to do so as she accompanied her husband on many TOY trips while he was employed at Ft. Huachuca. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting many an afghan. Who would have known she would become a NASCAR fan and loved to cheer on 'her' #24 Jeff Gordon. Pauline was a wonderful cook and family and friends felt lucky to be recipients of many a great meal set at her table. We'll especially remember Eggs Benedict and Swedish Tea Ring on Christmas, authentic New England baked beans and a brownie recipe that we all love to make for our own families. The family wishes to thank Dr. David Knapp and Dr. Janet Nettleton; Hospice, Casa de la Paz and Comfort Keepers, especially Gisela Brennan. A special thank you to Dr. Anthony Nazaroff for the genuine concern and compassion he showed to Pauline and her family over the past five years. Pauline's gentleness, warmth and smile will be remembered by all whose lives she touched in many special ways. We love you Mom and will miss you more than words can say! Pauline will be laid to rest beside her husband, Payson at Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista, Ariz. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 27. Hatfield Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Pauline's name to the American Cancer Society or Hospice, Casa de la Paz. Pauline B. Tufts

I will miss "Auntie" as I called her. I was always so excited when she & Uncle Payson would visit us in Maine. I will miss the talks we had while she would be making breakfast or lunch.
There are so many memories, but the one I will cherish most is when she & Uncle Payson made a special trip to Maine for my college graduation. I will cherish that time always. I will miss her, but now she is at peace. I love you, Auntie.
Your loving niece, Denise
