Peter Newcomb Obituary

Peter F. Newcomb, 44
YARMOUTH
-
On Feb. 15, 2016, Peter F. Newcomb, resident of Yarmouth, saved and scored the final goals of his career - passing from this earth after a hard fought and courageous battle against cancer.
Born on Jan. 3, 1972 in Portland, Peter was raised in Cumberland, where he developed life-long friendships, spent perhaps too much time on the ice (and at least a little time on thin ice) and managed to survive (in fact, thrived) being the youngest of four brothers in a close knit and loving family. Following graduation from Greely High School, Peter attended New England College in New Hampshire (the only Henniker on Earth), where he gained even more life-long friendships and was an active member of Sigma Phi Delta fraternity.
Upon first meeting, Peter and Danielle had a brief conversation regarding whom they each knew (which, incidentally, was the first and the last "fight" with Danielle that Peter ever won), and then it was love at first sight for them both. They were married in September 2000, and soon thereafter took up residence in Yarmouth. Peter and Danielle welcomed their first son, Keegan, in 2004 and their second son, Declan, in 2007. Both of the boys were athletes in training from birth. Peter relished watching his boys play the same sports that he loved (hockey and soccer) and was able to coach both of them.
Peter was an avid athlete playing hockey, soccer and baseball. Soccer was his passion and that became apparent when he began coaching his sons' teams with the Yarmouth Community Services and Yarmouth Colts Soccer program. He also helped coach hockey with Casco Bay Hockey Association where he played himself for many years. He loved to have a good time and watch all the kids he coached reach their fullest potential.
Peter worked in sales his entire life. Most recently, he worked at New England Home Therapies (Bioscrip), where he enjoyed the friendship and support of many fine colleagues. Peter would strive to "listen to his customers," making them feel genuinely important and appreciated. Prior to Bioscrip, Peter spent many years as a recruiter at Adecco where he thoroughly enjoyed helping people find success and make the best of themselves.
No words can accurately describe how dearly loved Peter was by his family, friends and community. Through his wit and humor, perceptive observations and perspectives on life, Peter made those around him laugh. He engaged with others and made everyone feel respected and appreciated. His physical presence will be sorely missed, but he will be fondly remembered by those whose lives he touched.
Peter was predeceased by his parents, Carol and David Newcomb. He is survived by his wife Danielle; his boys, Keegan and Declan; his brothers, David, Chris and Todd; and his nieces and nephews, Kallie, Tessa, Jed, Abby, Amy, Jake and Drew; and his many, many friends.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at
Lindquist Funeral Home
in Yarmouth from 4-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Portland on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Yarmouth, later in the Spring.

I knew Peter as a young boy. I grew up with his older brother Chris, spending many hours at the Newcomb household. Peter had full spirit and always filled the room with laughter. My most heartfelt condolences to the Newcomb family. I am so very sorry for your loss.

I worked with Peter at Adecco and have many fond memories of working together. He was always positive, funny and full of ideas which made work fun. Even after he left Adecco we would get together for coffee which I always looked forward to as we would catch up about work, family and kids activities. He loved his children and wife as he always spoke so passionately about them whenever we got together. I'm truly sadden to hear about his passing and my sincerest condolences go out to Danielle and the boys, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Peter you will be missed, god bless you.

I met Peter when I started working at Adecco in 1999. I will just say....there was never a dull moment at work when Peter was around. He had lots of positive energy and could always make me laugh. Even after Peter left Adecco we kept in touch. He was a great Friend. Love and Big Hugs to Danielle and the Boys.

We miss you Peter.

Words cannot express my sadness for Peter's passing. He took on cancer like he took on life - with determination, drive, a focused attitude and most of all, a sense of humor. Rest in peace, my friend. May your days be filled with political banter, witty sarcasm and may you finally be able to break thru and do a full marathon. You will be missed. You will be very missed.

Peter lived 5 houses from me in Cumberland. His parents raised a geat son who became a great man, father and husband. I watched Peter grow up the youngest of four brothers and they too kept an eye on Peter and made sure he was safe but challenged as big brothers should. I graduated from greely in 1981 and there was a 10 year gap in age. Peter would go to the varsity soccer games and watch us play and ball boy biding his time to be out on the greely soccer field. He was always around and as he grew into the athelete and person he is, I would see him at the alumni games, and on the field where I had become a spectator of his vs. The other way around. He was fun to watch. I had a chance to see him quite a lot and spoke to him regularly over the past 4 years and was blessed to have spent time with him the day before he passed. Peter you will be missed, and my support for Peters family is and will always be there. Go rangers even if you did eventually live in yarmouth. Rest in peace my young friend . David "babs" Babino

Our sincere condolences to all of Peter's family. What a live wire he was! It was always fun to watch him frolic about as Carol and I were sitting at all the sports things that the older brothers were in. So very sad to lose the baby of the family.

I was saddened to hear of Peter passing on. I grew up in Cumberland Center and was friends with his older brother Chris. I remember Peter as an energetic and precocious child who wanted to be in the middle of everything. Although I left Maine over 3 decades ago I often recall many fond memories of my childhood there. Many of those memories were of racing bikes and playing ball at the Newcomb house on Phillips Street. I have lost touch with most of my childhood friends but was saddened when I heard this news. They were a wonderful tight knit family that enjoyed life. They were a fun family to grow up with. I know you all are suffering immense pain at the loss of the youngest and for that I am sorry. I wish you all comfort in this time of loss. You are all in my prayers. Gerald Skahan. [email protected]

I will always remember Pete as the youngest of the Phillips St gang. He was always there with the 'big' kids for a game of football, wiffleball or genuine mischief. He always had a smile on his face and quick one liner that got us all laughing. It was a privilege to call you my friend, I will miss running into you on trips back home. RIP little Newc.

It was a true pleasure to have had the opportunity get to know Peter. His wonderfully sarcastic sense of humor, ability to make everyone smile and as much as I hate to admit it but his power to ALWAYS be right about everything. I will truly miss you my dear friend.
