HAVERHILL, Mass. -- Robert E. McLean, formerly of South Portland, passed away on Feb. 22, 2013 at Merrimack Valley Hospice House, Haverhill, MA. He was the son of Charles C. McLean and Madeline (Studley) McLean, born on August 13, 1919 in South Portland.
Bob was predeceased by his wife, Natalie (Winslow) McLean, and brother, Charles. He is survived by two daughters, Marilyn (McLean) Paganucci of Hanover, N.H. and Marcia (McLean) Brown and her husband, Peter Brown of Groveland, Mass.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Bob graduated from South Portland High School in 1937, Portland Junior College 1937-1938 and graduated from Bentley College in 1940. His accounting career began in June 1940 - 1949 as a public accountant with Millet, Fish, & Dresser except for his four-year service in the U.S. Army during World War II as First Lieutenant, Coast Artillery Corps. 1942 - 1946. From April 1949 - April 1967 Bob was employed as Treasurer of Monmouth Canning Company. In April 1967 through December 1985 he was Treasurer of WCSH-Radio & TV with related responsibilities at WLBZ Radio & TV in Bangor, WRDO Radio in August, Congress Square Hotel Co., Congress Square Garage, Inc. and Rines Real Estate Company.
For 22 years Bob served as Treasurer of the Woodfords Club founded by his wife's grandfather and was a life member of the club. An avid golfer, Bob was a member of the Portland Country Club for many years. He also enjoyed bowling, receiving many awards.
There are no visiting hours scheduled. A memorial service will be celebrated at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford Street Portland, Maine on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Phillip Shearman officiating. On Line Condolences can be given to Robert's family at www.jonesrichandhutchins.com. Interment will take place at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery.

Dear Marilyn and Marcia,
I am so sorry to hear of Uncle Bob's passing. 94! Wow. What a wonderful, full life. I will always remember his smile and laugh, it was infectious. I am sorry this is late in coming. I was just today informed of his passing. I hope this finds you both well.

Dear Marilyn and Marcia,

We want to send our deepest sympathy to you both. I have had so many fond memories of Bob during my lifetime. He was a very nice man and cousin. Paul enjoyed the bowling days on Tuesdays when Bob used to bowl. You might like to know that the Tuesday Seniors' Men League had a moment of silence for Bob on Tuesday which I think was a thoughtful thing to do. Bob and Charlie were more like brothers to me than cousins when I was growing up. We are truly sorry that we can't make the memorial service on Saturday, as we will be on our way to Florida, but our thoughts and prayers will be with you all. We do look forward to spring and being with you at the interment service to be held at Evergreen.

Dear family of Bob McLean,
I was so sad to see that Bob had passed away. He was a great help to me in understanding the complicated historical and financial records of all the holding companies of the Rines/Thompson families. He was a great deal of help to my mother, Mary Rines Thompson, who found herself suddenly, one of only two chairwomen and family matriarchs of any media company in the United States. I know she was extremely happy to have Bob's wise counsel and financial expertise during her early meteoric learning curve and she sought his help often. Please pass along all of our families condolences to Bob's family and I am sure he will be sorely missed. I can not make the memorial service this Saturday due to a prior commitment, but wish you all the best and rest assured that Bob lived a full and happy life.
