Spiro ZERVOS Obituary

ZERVOS Spiro J. Spiro J. "Papou" Zervas, 89, passed away Monday, May 9, 2011 at Ebeid Hospice Residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 12, 1921 in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Stamos). He is survived by his son, Nick (Amy) and grandchildren, Alexis and Evan. They were truly the light of his life and he will be greatly missed. He had many friends and family that will also miss seeing his smiling face and friendly waves. Spiro served proudly in the Coast Guard during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he became a tailor. His career started at B.R. Baker then continued to Hughes and Hatcher, Macy's and finally Jacobson's where he retired when they closed in 2002. He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, AHEPA, Masonic Lodge and the Zenobia Shrine. Services will be 11 AM Friday in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. The family will receive friends from 2-8 PM Thursday in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue, where recitation of the Trisagion prayers will begin at 7 PM. Any tributes may be made in the form of contributions to the church, Sylvania Franciscan Academy or St. Ursula Academy. Papou always told his grandkids that their education was one of the most important things in life. The family would like to thank the staff and doctors at The Toledo Hospital and the Ebeid residence for their exceptional care. With their help Spiro was eased of pain and made his final days peaceful. Online condolences may be shared with the family by visiting our website at: www.ansberg-west.com

Nick,

I am so sorry to hear about your dads passing. You probably don't remember me...but I babysat for you. Spiro, Jenny and yourself were a part of our family. Spiro was the happiest person I have ever met. I will always have those great memories of your family.
I am John and Pauline Skouroukos' daughter, Sharon Cords and I want to extend my sincere condolances.

Dear Nick,Amy,Alexis and Evan, Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. I have many wonderful memories of your Father, an enthusiastic wave at the mall or helping me pin stripe your Trans Am ! A father an Son relationship is a wonderful thing. I have never met a father more proud and full of love for his son than Spiro Zervas was of you Nick. It may be some comfort to know that his Father has welcomed him home and his is now reunited with Virginia. What a wonderful day for him !

I knew Spiro from the time I was a little girl. He was always smiling and full of joy. He was a true friend of our whole family and especially to my late great uncle, John Skouroukos. He'll definitely be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
