Ronald Dion Obituary

Ronald G. Dion, 71
GORHAM -- Ronald G. Dion, 71, of the Gorham House, New Portland Rd., Gorham, passed away on Friday April 11, 2014, at the Maine Medical Center.
Ronald was born on Oct. 18, 1942, the son of Camille and Marjorie (Peters) Dion. He grew up and lived most of his life in Westbrook.
Ronald graduated from Cheverus High School, Portland, in 1960. His senior year book noted him as 'The quiet man . . . takes his studies seriously . . . arrives in his black chevy . . . from Westbrook . . . all round hard worker . . . hobby is meteorology . . . hopes to make a career of it.'
Following graduation, Ron served for six years in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves. During that time, he was one of the Coast Guard representatives sent to Washington D.C. to participate in the funeral ceremony of General Douglas MacArthur.
Ron worked for his father's grocery business, Dion's Market in Westbrook, for more than twenty years. He loved to interact with people. Many of the customers of Dion's Market returned because of his up beat personality. Prior to Ron's retirement, he worked as a delivery driver for Pilkington North American Glass Company for more than 16 years.
Ron had a great love of music, and a continued interest in meteorology. He delighted in reminiscing with family and friends about many fond memories of the past. In the day, Ron enjoyed fishing and playing golf.
Ron always had a good sense of humor and a positive attitude, even during his recent illness.
He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his brother, William and his wife Susan of Scarborough, sister Maureen and her husband Richard Harmon, sister Linda Dion of Brunswick; nieces, Jeane, Melanie, Merissa, Erin, Megan; nephew, Matthew; and great nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, at St. Antony of Padua Church, Brown Street, Westbrook. Interment will follow. On line condolences may be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Gorham House for their special care and attention given to Ron's needs, as well as the staff who cared for him at the Maine Medical Center.

Linda, Maureen and Bill, I am very sorry to hear of your loss. I remember how so many people would stop into the store just to talk to Ron about anything especially sports. Ron as I remember had a great sense of humor and enjoyable guy to talk to. Take care and God bless. Donald Aucoin, Scarborough
