William Sylvester Obituary

YARMOUTH - William Warren Sylvester (Bill), 78, of Yarmouth, passed away peacefully at home with his daughter, Aprillyn and son, William II (Billy) by his side on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018.  Bill's health had steadily declined over the past year.Bill was born in Bangor to Norman and Agailia (Nason) Sylvester, March 2, 1940.  Many of his fondest childhood memories were of visiting with his Uncle Percy and Aunt Gertrude Nason on their farm in Madison. He loved visiting them during school and summer vacations. Bill was a proud graduate of Portland High School, class of 1959.  While in high school, Bill played football, ran track and was a member of the "Bronzy Club".  It was also during high school where he met the love of his life Judith Murdoch. They married on April 23, 1960, at St. Luke's Cathedral in Portland and were married for 57 years until Judy's passing in 2017.  Bill and Judy had two children, Aprillyn in 1960 and Billy in 1963.  In 1971 they built their home in Yarmouth and put in many long hours of hard work to build a beautiful home that quickly became the epicenter of many social and holiday gatherings with family and friends.Aside from loving to spend time with family and friends, Bill had a great affinity for the outdoors. He always looked forward to deer hunting in the fall with his brothers Norman and Donny, his Uncle Owen, son Billy and many other family and friends!  During the winter months you could find Bill ice fishing out on a frozen pond and during the warmer months he would enjoy casting a fishing line into a local lake or pond. If he was at home, you could find him creating a delicious meal or relaxing by the T.V. enjoying his beloved Red Sox and Patriots!  Bill spent the majority of his work career as a truck driver, having worked many years for Blue Line Express and then Preston Trucking with whom he retired from in 1997.Bill was predeceased by his parents Norman and Agailia (Gail) Sylvester; his youngest brother Donald Sylvester; and his beloved wife Judith (Murdoch) Sylvester. He is survived by his brother Norman Sylvester of Yarmouth, brother Daniel Sylvester and wife Mary of Wesley Chapel, Fla.; daughter Aprillyn Brunelle and husband Raymond of Yarmouth, his son William (Billy) Sylvester of Alfred; and his three grandchildren who he and Judy absolutely adored, granddaughter Brie Newsome and husband Jon of Nashua, NH, granddaughter Alexandra (Lexie) Brunelle of Boston, Mass., grandson Kyle Brunelle of Yarmouth; one great-grandson Declan Newsome of Nashua, N.H.; and numerous nieces and nephews. A heartfelt thank you to Friends In Home Care and Compassus Hospice for giving our dad dignity and compassionate care during a very difficult time.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke, 143 State St, Portland, at 12:00 noon on Monday, Nov. 12, 2018.
