Aurelia Marian Kulp

Aurelia Marian Kulp, of Freedom Village in West Brandywine, PA, formerly of Wayne, died on November 6, 2012. Aurelia (Dod) was born on May 10, 1925 in Philadelphia. Daughter of Michael G. Marian, Romanian consulate to Philadelphia, and Elena Marian, she was a 1943 graduate of Olney High School where she was active in many extracurricular activities including cheerleading and debate team. Dod went on to attend the University of Pennsylvania, then transferred to University of Arizona where she graduated with a BS in Education. She met the love of her life, Navy Chaplain John C. Kulp (Jack), in 1945 in Ocean City, NJ. They married in June, 1949 and went on to reside in Hulmeville, Drexel Hill, then settled in Swarthmore, PA where they raised their two children, Susan and John, Jr. It was there that she began substitute teaching, and teaching in the Ridley Township School District while fulfilling the duties of a minister's wife at the Swarthmore United Methodist Church. Following sixteen years in Swarthmore, Dod and Jack moved to Asbury United Methodist Church in Allentown, and then to Wayne United Methodist Church. She attended Kutztown University, where she received her degree in Special Education and went on to teach in the Philadelphia School District, and then retired from teaching in 1987. Dod was a member of PEO, Drexel Hill Chapter, for 50 years. However it seemed her most fulfilling role was that of a grandmother to Kristin Smith Connell, Steven Smith, Andrew Kulp and Jordan Kulp. She is also survived by her husband, son and daughter, and by her brothers, Michael M. and John V. Marian, their wives, Pat and Fran, niece Karen and nephews, Jim and Jeff. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 24th at 11 AM at Wayne United Methodist Church, 210 S. Wayne Ave, Wayne, PA, where friends may call after 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent in her name to PSCPC (Penn State Center for the Protection of Children), Office of University Development, PO Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033. Internment private.
