Ernest Biddle Obituary

Ernest Law Biddle Jr, of Wynnewood, PA, died on February 6, 2023, after an illness that was complicated by Covid 19. He will be missed by all who loved him. Mr. Biddle, born October 28, 1942, was the son of Ernest Law Biddle and Peggy Ann Huber Biddle. His grandparents were Livingston Ludlow and Eugenia Law Biddle of Bryn Mawr, and Joel Cook and Mary Hays Huber of Gladwyne. He is survived by his daughter, Silsbee Biddle Philo, his son, Ernest Law Biddle 3rd, his grandchildren Jillian Philo and William Law Philo, his first wife Elizabeth Clay Lange, his brothers Joel Cook Huber Biddle and Edward Law Biddle, and his partner, Anne Freeman. His second wife, Ana, predeceased him Ernie attended the Haverford School and the Hun School. He attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts with academics at the University of Pennsylvania. He was a gifted artist and photographer who taught painting techniques to private students. As vice president of King Testor Corporation in King of Prussia, PA, he held several patents for testing the hardness of metals. Dogs, horses, and fast cars were his passions. Ernie owned racehorses and was on the Trophy Committee of the Devon Horse Show. Mr. Biddle comes from an altruistic family of brilliant and creative people. His mother was an artist and his father was a portrait painter represented by Portraits Incorporated in New York City. His grandmother, Mary Hayes Huber, invented the Campbells Kiddies with her aunt, Grace Drayton. His author uncle, Livingston L. Biddle Jr. was chair of the National Endowment for the Arts. During the depression, Cousin George Biddle played a major role, at the request of President Roosevelt, in establishing the Federal Art Project which employed artists under the Works Progress Administration. The WPA went a long way towards keeping architects and artists from starving during that desperate time. Francis Martin Drexel painted Simon Bolivar's portrait, along with those of other Brazilian dignitaries of his time. He invested the proceeds to form Drexel & Co. His son and Ernie's twice great grandfather, Anthony J. Drexel, launched J. Pierpont Morgan as a partner in the New York office of Drexel & Co. He also founded Drexel University. Nicholas Biddle expanded the American banking system. His economic infrastructure encouraged foreign trade and a stable uniform currency for the new country. He edited the journals of Lewis and Clark for a book that became the standard account of the expedition. The family has planned a graveside service for Mr. Biddle on October 28, 2023. It will be at 10 AM at The Church of the Redeemer in Bryn Mawr, PA. STUARD â€" NEWTOWN SQUARE A FAMILY TRADITION SINCE 1822

I was a classmate of Ernie, at the Pennsylvania Academy, the fine arts; from 1961 Through 1965.
Uncle Sam called me in 1965... So I joined the Air Force instead!
He was a great friend and a true connoisseur of Schmitz beer, the beer of Philadelphia, where, on occasion, then, about eight of us from the Academy, including Ernie, Bert Esteves, Barbara Yochum, a second son of Walter StumpfIg (One of our most beloved instructors, a great artist in his own, right!)
Those were magical days, and I even had a job as a security guard in that brewery, of course it was a part-time gig.
Anyway, we could go to that brewery, and everybody would crowd into the brewery and do different drawings for a competition to be voted on and hung somewhere in the brewery for a small prize of some kind; I think, as a matter fact, it was a case of quart Bottled beer made by Mr. Schmidt!
I´ll give anything to go back to those days, the days of the innocent, the Vietnam war, great beer, memories, and great artists... I´ll miss you, Ernie!
Ernie also had a very Beautiful cousin that lived very close to him. One of my first of many crushes... as I recall, he had a couple of gigantic German Shepherd dogs!
Funny the things we remember, looking back in our college days... Ernie, I´m sad to see and hear that you passed away, may you rest in peace.Tom

Ernie, it´s been 470 days since you left there´s not a day that goes by that I don´t miss you or think of you. You truly were such a blessing in my life my best friend! God all the hours we spent on the phone. I miss that. I miss chatting with you while I ride the horses. We laugh about you taking a ride with me on the horse. I´m sure you already know but Noel had her baby. I named her Katie because that´s what you used to call Noel. Katies registered name is Ernie´s Lopin Queen. I can´t believe you´re not gonna be here to help me with this little stinker. I was so looking forward to you coming out here to see her. I´m sure you´re up there just Beaming. I have no doubt she made it because of you. Oh boy, were you right about how good of mamas that entire line was and is Noel is incredible! She´s making you proud. I do wish you could´ve been here longer. I miss you so very much. It´s not one of the goofy songs we used to share between us, but this one really hits home. I truly hope there´s racehorses up there. Love ya!!

It seems whenever I search in vain for a childhood friend, I ony find them when their obituary turns up. Ernie and Joel were our childhood playmates from a very young age, our parents were also artists, and it was a Bucks county gang that often met socially, and included the children. We attended eachother's birthday parties, had sleepovers, picnics, whatever. Ernie's first wife, Betsy Clay was my classmate at Moore College of Art. I extend my condolences to his entire family. My brother John Siebel will be sad to have lost a friend. I send a hand of friendship across the many years to Joel. Sincerely, Katherine (Kakie Siebel) Kunhiraman
