Wilbert Moehlenkamp

Wilbert H. Moehlenkamp, 98, of Rock Falls, Ill., born Oct. 17, 1915, in Nashville, Ill., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at home.

Wilbert was born the son of Henry and Wilhelmine "Minnie", nee Eigenrauch, Moehlenkamp. He was united in marriage to Evalyn "Birdie" Smith, daughter of John and Nora, nee Hill, Smith, on Sept. 6, 1935, by the Rev. Cloogy in Nashville, Ill. His wife, Evalyn, preceded him in death on Feb. 16, 2001.

Mr. Moehlenkamp was raised on a farm in Plum Hill, Ill., and was confirmed in the Plum Hill Evangelical Church in 1928. Throughout his long life he was employed by the Mike and Ike Railroad which was owned by the Missouri Pacific, the Key Foundry in St. Louis, the Mount Vernon Auto Lite, United States Post Office, Contour Saws, Scientific Animal Lab and Farms of Arlington Heights, Ill., Vogel Peterson, and finally the caretaker for the campgrounds in Decatur, Ill., for the Church of God of Anderson, Ind.

Mr. Moehlenkamp was an army veteran of World War II and was honorably discharged on Dec. 3, 1945. He was a member of The First Church of God in Houston, Texas, and The Lincoln Avenue Church of God in Dixon, Ill. He loved his God, his family, and thoroughly enjoyed gardening, fishing, Dr. Pepper and Oreo cookies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Minnie; his wife, Evalyn; his brother, Raymond Moehlenkamp and wife Eleanora; his sister, Irene, nee Moehlenkamp, Meyer and husband Sam; his brother-in-law, Virgil Blumhorst; two sons, Everett Lee and Wayne and wife Rita; his daughter, Margie and her husband Clifford Weatherford; a son-in-law, Charles Davis; and granddaughter, Brenda Sapp.

Surviving are his son, Larry (Pearl) Moehlenkamp Sr. of Stewart, Ohio; three daughters, Gladys Davis of Tampa, Fla., Wilberta (Robert) Clark of Houston, Texas, and Debra (Michael) Hughes of Rock Falls, Ill.; 17 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Edna (Blumhorst/Suedmeyer); and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and/or Hospice, and will be accepted at the Campagna Funeral Home in Nashville, Ill.

Visitation: Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Campagna Funeral Home, Nashville, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at the Campagna Funeral Home in Nashville, Ill., with Pastor Don Jones officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Paul's Cemetery in Nashville. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 110.
