Mary Lasater Obituary

Mary Ann Lasater was born March 20. 1920 in Greenville, Ala. and passed Feb. 6 at the Manchester Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Ben B. Lasater; parents, George W. and Anna Laura Wade Fails; and siblings, Georgia (Hugh) Fails Carr, Herman (Edie) Fails and Renford (Millicent) Fails. She is survived by her son, G. Benson (Kay) Lasater of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two daughters, Betty J. (Aaron) Jones and Nancy A. (Grady) Mullican, both of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Sandra Lasater, Karen Lasater, Jarrod (Tai) Jones, Diane Ashcraft, Denton (Mindy) Jones, Lisa (Kenny) Sadler, Amie (Sean) Miles, and Tyler (Brooke) Mullican; great-grandchildren, Leevi Jones, Savannah Jones, Jessica Limbaugh, Derek Jones, Ashley Dillsaver, Lesie Willmore, Hollie Sadler, Joseph Sadler, Isabella Miles, Sophie Miles, Gwyn Miles, and Everett Mullican; one sister, Julia B. (Kenneth) Fails Johnson of Monroeville, Ala., and one brother, Wade Fails. Ms. Lasater grew up in Greenville, Ala., graduating from Greenville High School. After graduating in Greenville, she later moved to Atlanta, where she worked at Merck, Sharpe and Dohme Corporation, a pharmaceutical company for 6 years. While in Atlanta, she met Ben Burton Lasater of Hillsboro. They married in Jasper, Fla. on Feb. 27, 1940. Mr. Lasater was subsequently sent overseas during WW II and Mrs. Lasater moved to Hillsboro living with his parents, Burton and Maude Farrar Lasater. Ms. Lasater set up a kindergarden class in her home, where she taught for 10 years. In 1971, Ms. Lasater began work at the Hillsboro Post Office, where she later became the Post Master for 26 years. She belonged to the Hillsboro United Methodist Church and was active in many community activities including the Coffee County Fair Board and the Coffee County Farm Bureau. Visitation was on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016 from 12:30 p.m. - 1: 45 p.m. at Central Funeral Home, The funeral service was conducted on Sunday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. at Central Funeral Home with Rev. Martin Bowlin and Bro. Danny Anderson officiating. Burial followed at the Hillsboro Methodist Cemetery. Arrangements with CENTRAL FUNERAL HOME. www.centralfuneralhome.com
