Fay Walters Sandberg passed away peacefully at home in Bremerton, WA on March 29, 2022, at the age of 94.
Fay was born in Manistee, MI on September 5, 1927, to George and Elin Walters. A 1945 graduate of Manistee H.S. she attended Bethel College, St. Paul, MN where she met her husband, Rev. LeRoy H. (Sandy) Sandberg. They were married on September 3, 1949, in Manistee, MI.
Fay was preceded in death by her parents, sister Hazel Paterson of Farmington Hills, MI, brother Ted M. Walters, a Ranger KIA in WWII, sister Fern Elliott of Manistee, MI, sister June (George) Putnick of Dearborn, MI, infant brother Jerry and brother Roy Walters of Manistee, MI.
Fay had been active in American Baptist Churches where her husband served as pastor in North Dakota, Wyoming, California, and Bremerton, WA. She was also active in community and church choirs as well as directing children's choirs. She served as a state officer for the Wyoming Baptist Women and America Baptist Churches of the West. For many years she was a member of the Board of Alameda County Project Intercept in Hayward, CA. Fay worked for 17 years as office manager for Moore Products Co.'s San Francisco sales office. She was also a member of the Board of Directors of Kitsap County Day Care Center.
As well as her husband, Fay is survived by three sons, the Rev. Dr. Ted (Charlaine) Sandberg of Chico, CA, Gary (Diana) Sandberg of Clearwater, KS, and Kirby Sandberg of Bremerton, WA; grandchildren Jerry (Aimee) Sherrill of Issaquah, WA, Paul (Meagan) Sandberg of New York, NY, Laura (Jaymes) Clements of Chico, CA, Ike Sandberg of Eureka, CA, and Miranda Sandberg of Wichita, KS; great-grandchildren Baylor and Lauren Sherill of Issaquah, WA, Alan, Claire, and Vivian Clements of Chico, CA, and many nieces and nephews.
Fay was an active and long-time member of Manette Community Church and a member of Chapter H.D. P.E.O.
