Vivian Culler Obituary

Vivian Marie Culler

ASHLAND: Vivian Marie Culler, 95, of Ashland, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Hospice of North Central Ohio.

She was born November 8, 1919 in Mifflin Township, Richland County, to the late Ralph and Artie (nee Lehman) Doerrer. She was a graduate of Lucas High School.

On June 20, 1936 she married the love of her life, Martin Luther Culler. The couple moved to the Ashland area in 1943 where they operated a dairy farm. In 1955 they bought "The World's Largest Hot Dog" concession wagon, which was the start of Culler Concessions. The Cullers branched out into other concession over the years, operating them at numerous fairs and festivals until their retirement at the close of the fall season in 2001. During the early years of the concession business the couple had also owned and operated "The Village Restaurant" located on Center Street in Ashland.

In 1991, Vivian and Martin were awarded the Show Persons of the Year Award by the Greater Ohio Showmen's Association.

Vivian was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ashland, the Greater Ohio Showmen's Association and was a former 4-H leader. She enjoyed cooking, doing crafts and needlework.

Vivian is survived by her three loving daughters, Charlotte Diane Kemp of Ames, Iowa, Cynthia Vivian Yeagle of Mansfield, and Sandra Martea Culler of Los Angeles, CA; six grandchildren, Gary (Teresa) Kemp, Karen Kemp (Jeff) Glock, Martin (Andrea) Kemp, Heidi Hammett, W. Jeffrey (Lori) Hammett, Vivian Poutakoglou (Raymond) Christ; 12 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; and her brother-in-law, Gerald (Gail) Culler; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Martin Luther Culler on September 13, 2003 after 67 wonderful years of marriage; a son, Stanley Martin Culler in May of 1945; one sister, Avis Gladden; and three brothers, Ralph Jr., Howard and Neal Doerrer.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 508 Center St., Ashland, Ohio with the Rev. Sanford C. Mitchell officiating. A family committal service will be held at the Mount Zion Cemetery near Lucas. Following the memorial service, friends are invited to visit with the family at a lunch which will be held at the church.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 508 Center St., Ashland, Ohio 44805.
