David Hoffmire Obituary

David Chamberlain Hoffmire A lifelong Marin resident, passed away on Sunday, May 11th, 2008 following a short bout with cancer. Raised in Tiburon, David loved cruising the town with his friends. As a child, he enjoyed the Penny Arcade, Judge Field, and the old railroad piers, tracks, and tunnels. He also liked spending time on the bay fishing and boating. David attended Redwood High School, where he excelled in football and baseball. He then went to College of Marin before becoming a union carpenter. He joined his father John in the construction business, and they built many beautiful homes together. David was a two time Demolition Derby champion in the Petaluma County Fair, where he drove a classic Dodge with a push-button transmission to victory. He loved thoroughbreds, and became a breeder. His prize foal was born in the fields of Kentucky shortly before his death. David loved coaching baseball at every level. His kids will remember him for his ability to shout, teach, and love at the same time. He was instrumental in building Marin Catholic's batting complex in Marin's first turf facility. David is survived by his three children David, Jr., Matthew and Stephanie, all of Marin; his mother Jean Rose, of Tiburon; his two brothers John and Steve and their families; and his companion Maria. An education fund for the Hoffmire children has been established at Wells Fargo Bank, 1550 Tiburon Blvd., Tiburon, CA 94920. Donations may also be given to Doctors Without Borders, P.O. Box 5030, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5030, or a charity of your choice. The Service will be held at the Community Congregational Church on Rockhill Drive in Tiburon on Saturday, May 17th at 4:30 p.m.

Dear Dave,

Seeing your picture propelled me back to the 1970s - I have not had any contact with you since our days at Del Mar and Redwood High, but I never forgot your handsome face, your smile and your laugh.

How unfortunate that only through reading your obituary was I able to get caught up with your life and accomplishments post-high school.
Life has taken me far from Marin but those days have helped shape who I am today. And I thank you for being a part of that.

My thoughts and heartfelt sympathy to your family and friends.
Lovingly remembered,

Melanie Hess

We met Dave when he moved onto our street in Greenbrae. How I wish we had met him sooner, as in the short few years we knew him, each moment was memorable..he generously shared duck, tools and comical construction woes..we were building our houses at the same time, and will do what we can to help finish his dream house as he would have wanted.

I felt privileged to care for Mr. Hoffmire when he came to Kaiser for treatment. I was so moved by his kindness and courage, but most of all I was touched by his love for his children. He lit up like a lamp when he talked of each of his children and how proud he was of them. My heart goes out to the loved ones of this special man.

Dave Hoffmire was my coach for a couple of years. Never have I ever had a coach as dedicated as Dave. He truely was a player's coach. I had the funnest years of my life playing baseball on Dave's team. He was a great man, and did a lot for his players and his community. I know he's in a better place, probably around the game. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family. He was a great man, and I will never forget him.

I met David at Tiburon preschool (when we were three years old) ... while my memory doesn't go back quite that far ... I do have vivid and fond memories of times during our youth ... back when all we pretty much were concerned with was having as much fun as possible.

David is among the kindnest people I have known. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to David Jr., Matt & Stephanie, to Jean, John & Steve, to Maria and to his best and closest buddies (buds).
